Cottr/f Crook Nows By: Agnes Angell July 6, 1965: Yielding to many requests, I am taking up my pen again to write newsy tidbits of what I hope will be items of interest to the readers. Cattail Creek Community is full-up with its summer resi dents. The square dances at the Recreation Hall have been In full swing for many weeks, and are heavily pa tronized by not only the Cat tailers themselves, but othe s from the surrounding areas. The congregations of the Methodist and Baptist Chur ches In Pensacola have been Increased considerably by the attendance of the Cattail summer contingent, and by the way, I would like to say a word of praise and commend ation for the fine sermons preached on the occasion of my recent visits the-e. Reviewing the past 20 years I have been spending sum mers in Cattail, it appears there have been many and great changes. From a com munity of approximately 40 or 50 summer homes In 1946, there are now between 100 and 125 such homes. However, many of the pioneering cablneers have , been called to rest by the Loid. I can recall about 33 of them: Mr. and Mrs. Rossey Matthew Cooper, his mother and Aunt Harriett; William Cain, * Cornelius Cummings, Harrison Comfort, his wife and father-in-law, John Hahn; Edward Melster, Rob ert Howard, Christine Ken nedy, Eari Brown, Robert and Anne Benedict, William Reid and daughter, Dorothy; Jake Melachamp, H. w. Bpears, Raymond Sheperd, William Montgomery, Dr. Mack, Mr. Hackett, Thelma Diamond, EM". Glenn James, Rev. John Hanger, Dr. Scholz, “Skip” Adams, Roy Pelletier, Mrs. Baster, (Walter’s moth er) Thomas Meltbn, Mary Haeger, William Grassmuck and Joseph Snowden. There may hare been others, but their names escape me. There has been a great Im provement in the highways serving uor community since 1946, when 5 nos-197 had only 4 miles of black top road leading south from Burns ville. Bolens Creek Road was mostly a hard gravel road with large rocks at the turn near the cemetery. Now we have black top all the way from Burnsville to Pensacola on both roads, and a long distance up Cattail Creek Road to within y 2 mile of my cabin, which is just around the turn from the bridge across Wolf Pen Creek. There are 20 or mo”e cabins further up the mountain past my cabin. r- My next column will con tain items of more personal nature as to our summer re sidents. “Cattallers” please contact me for Items you wish published.
