T Fashion Tissue 2fok 29c TWO SELECTED FOR ELECTRIC CONGRESS Two Yancey County 4-H members have been selected to attend the 19th annual 4-H Electric Congress at Durham Augu~t 16-18. Claudette Wilson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Brooks Wilson of Pensacola, and Ohle Car-oil, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Carroll of Busick, will be among some 200 congress delegates. Selection of delegates Is made on the basis of ach ievement in the 4-H electric p-oiect, explained Walght still Avery, Yancey County Assi tant Agricultural Agent. The Electric Cngress Is sponsored by four electric power companies se v ving North Carolina Duke Pow er Co., Nantahala Power and Light Co., Virginia Electric and Power Co., and Carolina Power and Light Cn., and by the Westlnghouse Education al Foundation. These firms award SIOO scholarships to eight terri torial w'nne-s and present gold watches to the runners up. The state chamolon re ceives an expense-paid trip to Chicago in November to compete with other state winners for the national title at the National 4-H Club Congress. Carroll Mode, last year’s state winner from Franklin ton, won the national cham pionship. The 4-H’ers left for Swannanoa Monday, August 9, and will return Saturday, August 14. Delegates attending from Yancey County are: Teresa McMahan, Newdale; Janet Wilson, Newdale; Susan Ohle, South Toe; Dwight Wilson, Pensacola; Lawrence Grindstaff, Jr., Brush Creek. During their stay at Swan nanoa, the 4-H’ers will have classes in c-afts, radio voice, outdoor cookery, photogra phy, recreation and record keeping, as well as many workshop sessions. The congress begins with registration Monday after noon, August 16. The dele gates will be entertained at a d'nner Monday evening. Forums, demonstrations and reports are scheduled Tues day. There will be tours of the Morehead Planetarium at Chapel Hill and the Duke University campus. The Rev, Mr. Thomas Haggla, High Point minister, will address the delegates at a Tuesday luncheon. * Winners will be. announced and awards made Tuesday evening.
