Peggy Wells Enders Assigned To Vietnam FORT BENNINO, GA. A petite Army nurse at Fort Benning has adopted the Infantry’s motto, “Follow Me,” as a family guide-line, as she packs her size three uniforms and custom-made, size three combat boots to go to Vietnam. Second Lt. Peggy Wells Enders of Burnsville, N. C., is following her husband, 2nd Lt. Rona’d H. Enders of Winston-Salem, N. C, who is en route to Vietnam with the Ist Cavalry Division (Airmobile). “I had no idea of going to Vietnam,” the nu Be said. “About two days before Ron ald was due to leave (Aug. 17), my orders came. The biggest problem seemed to be suitable clothing for a combat zone. They just don’t make fatigues and. combat b"ots in my size.” When someone suggested that it would be easier to get her orders changed than to find combat boots for her tiny feet, Lt. Peggy Ei ders said, “If you can’t locate boots for me I’ll go to the children's department of a shoe sto e and buy loafers— Im going to follow my hus band to Vietnam.” the YANCEY RECORD She’ll get the combat boots, made to order, in time to leave for Vietnam Sept. 12. The daughter of Mr. ani Mrs. Luther Wells of Puns v i’e, Peggy met Ronald while both were at Ffpiffer College in Misen heimer. N. C. Later, she wis graduated from Charlotte (N. C) Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, a->d he fr-m Wake Forest College at Winston-Salem. After their marrlaee Oct. 4. 1964, they made a honey moon trip to Sam Houston, Texas, where she entered basic training a3 an Army nurse and he was sworn in as a Medical Ser vice Corps officer. In December, the two Lie utenants came to Fort Ben ring—'he to serve at Mar tin Army Hospital, and he to join the 11th Air Assault Division (Test), row deslg rated Ist Calvary Division (Airmobile). Although there was no connection between the two sets of orders to Vietnam, the Enders hope to see each o*her once in a while, at least.
