Meet Tonight
The Yancey County Cham
ber of Commerce will meet
with the County Board of
Education on Thursday (to
night) at 7:30 p. m. in the
County Courthouse. The pur
pose of the meeting is to see
if the Chamber can be of any
assistance to the School
Board in their school pro
gram.

Crafts lessons
Craft lessons use of native
materials will begin Monday,

and sizes; buckeyes, chest
nuts, hickory nuts, acorns,
hazelnuts, peach seeds, pe
cans, sweet gum balls, walnut
beechnuts and burs, chinqua
pins, sycamore balls and any
type of firm seed pods. These
materials should be baked at
200 degrees for lYi hours,
(holes may be punched be
fore baking, if desired.)
Adkins In Air
Transport Exercise

Adkins, Sr, 132 Lynch St.,
Rutljerfordton, N. C., partici
pated in an air transport ex
ercise conducted by the Bth.
Infantry Division in Germany,
ending Sept. 13.
Sgt. Adkins and other mem
bers of the Inf. were trained
in the proper procedures for
loading,and moving men and
equipment using U. 8. Air
Force al-craft.
The 25-year old soldier, a
team leader in Company C of
the Infantry’s Ist Battalion
near Baumholder, Germany,
entered the army in May
1963 ar.d completed basic
training at Fort Go don, Ga.
He attended Cane River
High School, Burnsville.

EXCUSE US, PLEASE
The Yancey Record was in
error when they printed the
article on the Ch'istmas Par
ade a few weeks ago, saying
that the parade was sponsor
ed by the Chamber of Com
merce. The Parade is spon
sored by the merchants in
the county who participated
in the drawing held last year.
There we-e eighteen merch
ants who sponsored the par
ade last year. They put up
the money for the parade and
for the prizes which were giv
en away last year. Each spon
soring merchant donated
SIOO.OO.
These me’chants will spon
sor • the Christmas parade
again this year and all orga
nizations etc. who are inter
ested in entering a float are
urged to contact Mrs. Grace
Banks at the Information
House in Burnsville.
The parade was a huge suc
cess last year. Many people
remarked that there were
mere people in Burnsville last
year than at one time. The
floats were beautiful last year .

has started wo~k toward Sou
thern Association Accredita
tion. All faculty members are
presently working in commit
tee groups on departmental
work which means evaluating
each school department in
terms of stengths, weakness
es, and recommendations.
East Yancey High School
will present their total report
to the visiting committee for
evaluation sometime next
year. Mr. Hugh Randall, Sup
erintendent of Hendersonville
City Schools is East Yancey’s
area coo-dinator.
The support and backing of
parents and community agen
cies is essential if East Yan
cey reaches this worthwhile
goal.

COLLETAS RETURN
FROM CALIF. TRIP
Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Coletta
and daughter, Celia, returned
home from San Francisco,
Calif. Monday. They flew to
San Francisco on September
28 and returned home Octo
ber 4. Miss Celia Coletta won
first door prize at the annual
fall fashion show in Asheville
in August. The prize was an
expense paid trip for a week
to San Francisco for two. The
plane t'ip was compliments
of Delta Air Lines. The annual
fashion show is sponsored by
the Asheville Merchants.
Mr. and Mrs. Coletta and
Celia stayed at the Sheritan
Palace Hotel in San Francis
co. While there they toured
San Francisco and surround
ing a"eas.
Celia graduated from Mer
cyhurst College In Erie, Pa. in
June and will leave for Wash
ington, D. C today where she
has accepted a position with
the Federal Service Depart
ment. She will work in the
Health, Education and Wel
fare Department.

School of Medical Technology

September 30 and is now "em
ployed with Community Mem
orial Hospital in South Hill,
