Also Mrs. Sam Hensley is visiting her sons, Jerry, Joe and Maurice Hensley in Ocala Fia. Sgt. Sam L. Radford and family have returned to AFB, Lincoln, Neb. after a three week visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Radford of Cane River. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ray have returned home from a ten-day visit to Florida. Miss Irma Radford has re turned to East Tennessee State University for her sen ior year. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Radford of Cane River. Miss Lillian Presnell and Mrs. Haskel Presnell of Tho rn asville, Oa. are visiting re latives here for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Helton Carmi chael and children have re turned home after a visit to the Wor d’s Fair, New York. Milton Higgins, Jr., is a patient in Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. riff Cleven ger and son, Jerry, visited their daughter, Carolyn, at Virginia Beach, Virginia last week. Rick Bacon visited his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bacon here last week-end. He is a freshman at the University of N. C , Chapel Hill. Dudley Robert'on of WCC, Cullowhee and Gary Ray of ASTC, Boone visited their parents, M*. and Mrs Ken neth Robertson and Mr. and Mrs. James Ray, here last week-end. Bunny Bennett of Milligan College, Milligan, Tenn. visit ed her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bennett, here last week-end. Dr. Melvin W. Bert Styles. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stamey of Rt. 1, Burnsville, and the bride groom is the son of Mrs. Biss Laws and the late Mr. Laws of Bu nsville. Mrs. Laws is a student at Cane River High School and Mr. Laws is employed by Penlar.d’s Hardwood Lum ber Company. The couple will reside in Burnsville. Mr. and Mrs. Schwager has been traveling through the western states for the past th ’ee weeks while they were on vacation. Mr. Elbert Roger Higgins, Jr., 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Higgins of Burnsville RFD 4, graduated from Dell School of Medicall Technology in Asheville on Thursday, September 30 and Is now 'em ployed with Community Mem orial Hospital In South Hill, Virginia. Work will begin on Satur day morning, October 9th, at the Pigeon Roost FWB Chur ch. The wo k is being done to repair the church; such as put a pew t~D on, and sheet rock the insides. Anyone that would like to help in this ty pe of work is asked to do so, sir-ee t*e help is reeded Floyd Hughes of Byrd Creek told the writer last week that he killed a large copperhead on the wate~s of Byrd Creek about two weeks be fore that. Hughes said the snake was only a few inches from his foot, when he at first saw it. Hughes said the S'-'ake ws in a wooded area, which was mostly in a laurel patch. This is to be the f ! rst copperhead to be reported of being found in a laurel patch. C'-moletion of a new to Clifford Barnett’s dwelling house here at Byrd Creek, was completed a few days ago. The reporter of this col umn visited the Mt. Mitchell area on Sept. 20th, which was his fi'st visit there. Glenn Bennett of the Byrd Creek area is building anoth er room to his dwelling house at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Miller of the Tipton Hill area we.° here recently visiting with Mrs. Miller’s brothers and sister. They were accom panied by their three child ren, Ethel age 13; Ronald James 12, ard Eloise 11. Fon zer Miller, Ha vey’s brother also accompanied them here. The farmers here in this area this season say that Irish Potatoes are not as good this year as last. Some farm ers say that they grew half this year, as they did last year, off the same field. Some formers here begun to grade tobacco last day of Septem ber. while some farmers was grading two weeks before that; while as yet, some bu~- ley tobacco still stands out In the fields, uncut. This writer has saw three praying mantles here this year, while only seeing a few last year. Luther Peterson of the Poor Flats area spent the night of September 25th, he.e visiting with his relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Barnett recently visited the Mt. Mit chell region. They were from Byrd Creek a"ea. Aspie McCourry and Con way Hughes was recently transacting business in Bak ersville, N. C. •* • • Floyd Hughes of the Byrd Creek area purchased two Angus calves last Saturday from Rama McKinney of the McKinney’s Branch area in Yancey County. Mr. Hughes accompanied by the writer, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. McKinney. There we ea baptizing ser vice held at the intersection of Pigeon Roost Creek last Sunday at 2:30. Two were baptized, with the Rev. Bur nie Arrowood doing the bap tizing. Dwight Miller recently pur chased a car. Miller has been employed in Lenoir, N. C. for about two months. Rev. Burnle Arrowood of Erwin, Tenn, filled h’s regu lar appointment at the Pig eon Roost FWB Church on Saturday night, Octobe” 2nd. Rev. Arrowood Just preached once a month this year. While here on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Arrowood, and accom panied by Ed Llngerfelt, vis ited M”. and Mrs. Clifford Barnett, and Mrs. Floyd Bar nett. Eugene McKinney of Mc- Kinney’s Branch, and James McKinney of Peterson’s Bran ch on Jacks Creek were here at Byrd Creek Satu-day after noonl Oct. 2nd, on business. Malone - Case Engagement Annonaced Mr. and Mrs. Mack Malone, Sr. of Miami, Fla., formerly of Burnsvllie, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Mary, to M”. John Casey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Casey of Los Angeles, Calif. The wedding will take place on October 12. Miss Malone Is working on her master’s degree at Miami State University. Mr. Casey Is stationed at Fort Mye”S, Va., in the mili tary service. He received his master’s degree from the University of Southern Cali fornia.
