Change Noted In
Burley Allotment
Division
Raleigh Burley tobacco
•allotments may not be allo
cated as designated by the
owner when land is sold or
trimsferred to a new owner.
According to A. P. Hassell,
Jr., State Executive Director
of the Agricultural Stabiliza
tion and Conservation Ser
vice, this procedure was al
lowed by Amendment 3 to
the Reconstitution Regula
tions issued on April 22, 1965.
Hassell went on to say the
Food and Agriculture Act of
1965 excluded burley tobacco
from this designation pro
vision.
Hassell says that when a
farmer sells part of his farm,
the burley tobacco allotment
will generally be divided ac
cording to the percentage of
cropland he has sold. In
some cases, it may be divid
ed on agreement if an estate
is being divided among the
heirs.
Farmers that have any
questions about the division
of burley allotments are ur
ged to check with their lo
cal ABCS office before they
make a sale of land. The lo
cal office has all the records
for the farm and will be
able to tell the farmer how
the allotment will be divided.
