ABOUND THE A MiTOWILVIR Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge Ang lin attended the funeral of Mrs. Pearson Anglin, who passed away and was buried in Mobile, Ala. some two weeks ago. Mrs. Anglin was the daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge Gardner of this coun ty. From Mobile they went to Pensacola, Fla. where they visited with Dr. and Mrs. Henry Coker. Mrs. Coker the former Iris Clark, is a foster daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anglin. The Ang lins returned home Friday, the 29th. Mrs. Glayde Linton of Belhaven, N. C. was a week-end visitor of Mr. and Mrs. George Anglin. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dav id Y. Gillespie of Pikesville, Ky„ a son, on Saturday, October 30th. The grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Gillespie of Burnsville were on hand to greet the new arrival. Mr. Gillespie return ed to Burnsville on Sunday, Oct. 31. Mrs Gil’esple re mained in Pikesville fer a longer visit. Mrs. Grace Grassmuck. a summer resident of Cattail Creek, has returned to tier home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla- X Mrs. Robert Gou’d, of St. Thomas, Virgin Island, dau ghter of Mrs. Annie Bennett of the Nu-Wrav Inn. is on an extended visit to her mo ther She was accomnanied by her husband’s mother, Mrs Harry Gould, of St. Thomas, who returned home after a short visit. Mrs. Gould’s husband will Join her here next week for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Mclntosh of Rutherfordton, N. C visited in Burnsville Sunday. The Nu-Wray Inn guests this week-end sounded like “Old home week” in the newspaper profession. They included Mr. and Mrs. Wil ton G. Garrison of Charlotte. Mrs Garrison, better known as Eudora, is Woman’s Edi tor o f the CHARLOTTE NEWS & OBSERVER. Also, Mrs. Gurtrude Ramsey. Wo man’s Editor of the ASHE VILLE CITIZFN; and Mr. Tom Mcßae. Mrs. Bennett reoorts that this has been the busiest October in history for the Inn that more than one hundred p-op’e were turned away last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray McCall of Asheville visited friends in Burnsville Sunday. Mrs. Mc- Call is the former Miss Azelia Bennett. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hel mle and daughter have re turned home after a visit to Daytona Beach, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Styles had as their dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Hillard Henderson and sons, Don, David and Hubert of Hendersonville, N. C. Mrs. May Edge McKinney of Newdale is a patient in the Spruce Pine Community Hospital, where she under went surgery on Monday of last week She is recuperat ing nicely and will welcome visitors. The Mary Ray Hensley Circle of the First Baptist Church met in the Fellow ship Hall for a covered dish luncheon on Wednesday. The mission study took was taught by Mrs. O. W Deyton. Legion Auxiliary To Furnish Gifts For VA Hospital Pationts Once again the members of the American Legion Au xiliary are called upon to furnish gifts at the Veterans Hospital for the patients to give to their families. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary organiza tion are asked to give two gifts per member amounting to $l5O each. Mrs. Evelyn Pate will re ceive the gifts at the court house. Closing date will be November 15. Asheville PCA Opons Offico Horn The Asheville Production Credit Association, a farm lending agency, making short and intermediate term loans to farmers, announces the opening -of a field office in Burnsville to serve the credit needs of farmers in Yancey, Mitchell and Avery Counties. Mr. Plemmons invites the farmers In this area to come by his office in the Briggs Building on any Thursday and discuss their farm credit needs. The office will open on November 11 and will be open each Thursday from 9:30 a. m. to 4:00 p. m. Rev. Young .To Preach At Newdale The Rev. Troy Yeung will fill the pulpit at the Newdale Presbyterian Church on Sun day, November 7 at 11 a. m. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dav id Hall of Charlotte, former ly of Burnsv’lle, on October 29 a daughter, Jan Mechele, The grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Flavil McCurry visited the new arrival in Charlotte on Sunday. Mrs. V. L. Edwards has re turned to her home here after an extended visit with her son, James Edwards, and family in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards brought his mother home. Edgar Hunter, Jr. and Woodrow Anglin attended a state-wide principal’s meet ing in Asheville Thursday. Plans For Christmas Parade Perry Takes Ranger November 27 Underway ftst Hm Big doings are in the mak ing for the annual Christ mas parade, to be held on November 27, according to Mrs. Grace Banks, Secretary of the Chamber of Com merce. This affair Is spon sored by the merchants of Yancey County so far fifteen merchants are parti cipating in this event. Or ganizations signifying their desire ito participate with floats are: Three Girl Scout Tro-'ps, Yancey Hosnital, Forest Service, Cane River High School, Burnsville 'Ele mentary PTA, Burnsville Methodist and Baptist chur ches they will combine their efforts with one float. Also Clearmont Elementary School. Home Coming Queens and Cheer Leaders from both high schools will be on hand. The Chamber of Commerce float will have the honor of carrying Santa Claus. Also on hand will be bands from both Spruce Pine a"d Cran berry High Schools. Since no parade would be complete without a oicwn, we are ex pecting a good one for this affair. hoped that sev eral floats from Bpnit& Pine will be on hand, since their parade will be held on the 26th, and they have been in vited to send all, or as many of their floats as possible, Just as they have Invited the Burnsville floats to partici pate In their parade. Mrs. Banks said that it is not too late for other organizations and schools to have a part in this parade, and the Chamber of Commerce is hopeful that many others will join in the fun. Mr. E. L. The bride is a senior at Cane River High School and the groom Is serving with the United States Navy, and Is stationed in Ban Diego, Calif. He Is now home on a thirty day leave. He comes to Burnsville from the Oakmulgce Ranger Dis trict In the National Forest in Alabama where he was forestej, Mr. Perry attended Lees Mcßae College in Banner Elk, N. C., received his BSF frem the University of Geor gia in Athens, Ga , and his Masters from Yale Univer sity. Prior to going with the Government Forest Service, he worked for two years in research with the West Vir ginia Pulp and Paper In Manteo, N. C. He Is married to the for mer Jo Rita Cox of Gastonia, N. C, and they have two children, a son, 14 months and a daughter one month. They are living In the Hus key House in Rocky Springs Heights here. Mrs. Grady Mclntosh is in Memorial Hospital In John son City ,Tenn„ where she underwent surgery on last Thursday. She is getting along fine.
