Harold McDonald, Pastor The monthly Sunday School Workers’ Council will be held on Wednesday night, January 19, in connection with prayer meeting. The Deacons meeting will be held immediately following Workers Council in the Pas tor’s study. All active dea cons are encouraged to be present at this time. The second Associational S. S. meeting of the year will be held at the West 7 Burnsville Baptist Church on Monday night, January 17 at 7:30 p. m. The program for the night will be on per sonal witnessing and evan gelism. Following an open ing devotional period, there will be meetings of each age group for discussion periods. All S. S. officers and teach ers are especially urged to be present. January Bible Stcdy Week will be held during the week of January 23-27. Depart ments for every age group have been provided and ex cellent teachers have been enlisted for the study. Pre enrollment will be held through the Sunday School on January 16 and 23 lead ing up to the study which will begin during the Train ing Union hour on the 23rd. Books for the adult study will be available on January -16 for those who would like to make advance prepara tion for the Intensive study cf the book “John’s Wit ness To Jesus.” A special unit entitled “Hearing Our Witness For Christ” was begun in all adult and Young People's classes last Sunday. For the next 12 weeks these classes will be makng a study of the biblical basis for person al witnessing. It Is hoped that this study will prepare the entire church for the experience of a real revival In April as the series of evangelistic services begin. f > The services will be under r the leadership of Rev. T. L. Rich. Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church of Fairmont, N. C. Higgins Memorial Rot. Joe Warner, Faster Rev. Warner has Just re turned from High Point, where he has been attend ing a Pastor’s Conference. The WSCS study course will be held at 7:30 Sunday evening. It will be taught by Mrs. Warner, based on Acts of the Apostles “Then w:.d Now”. The WSCS Circles will hold their regular meetings on Thursday at 8:00 p. m. as follows: Sue Reynolds Circle with Mrs. W. H. Higgins; Clara Brown Circle with Mrs. Wallace Edge; Mildred Ray Circle with Mrs. P. C. Coletta On Sunday morning at 8:00 o’clock the Methodist men will meet for their breakfast. The Methodist ministers of Yancey and Mitchell Counties will meet Tuesday, the }3th at 11:30 a. m. In Bakersvllle for a luncheon at the Bakersvllle Restaur ant. Bishop Earl Hunt, Jr., will preach at the Central Meth odist Church In Asheville at THURSDAY, JAN. IS, IMS 7:30 p. m., Wednesday, Jan uary 19th. 'lhis will be “The Bishop’s Rally for Laymen o’ the Asheville District”. All Laymen and lay-women are urged to attend. Martins Chapel Methodist <.Rev. Alvin Jones, Pastor Mr. and Mrs. Jones have been attending the Pastor’s Conference In High Poi :t this week. The first Saturday night gospel sing at this church is gaining In Interest,— and* popularity. The prayer meetings, held every Tuesday night at 7:06 o’clock, is quite well attend ed, as are the Sunday School and church services. Bald Creek Methodist Rev. Thos. W. Weeks, Pastor The Bald Creek charge Is comprised of four churches: Bald Creek, Boring Chapel, Pensacola, and Elk Shoals Union Church. The Elk Shoals Church Is made up of Baptists and Methodists, and probably some other denominations, and is more or less a community church. Rev. Weeks preaches there every other Sunday, with a Baptist pastor preaching the other Sundays. Rev. and Mrs. Weeks (Carol) have served this charge for one and one-half years, coming here from N. C. They, have* four small daughters— Linda, Julie, Laura and Kar en. To say this la a busy family is putting It mildly. We thought the days of the “circuit rider” were gone forever, but with four chur ches it would seem that Mr. Weeks might come under that category. The MYF of Bald Creek and Boring Chapel meet re gularly every Sunday even ing at 6:30 at the Bald Creek Church. The MYF artd Family Fel lowship of the Pensacola Church will meet on Thurs day night of this week at 7:00 p. m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Rath bone. The WSCS of the Boring Chapel Church will meet Thursday at about one o’clock at the home o< Miss Fannie Evans. Rev. Weeks will be In the pulpit of the Boring Chapel church Sunday morning, the 16th, at 10:00 a. m., and the *Bald Creek church at 11:00 a. m. Burnsville Presbyterian Rev. Woodward Finley Pastor This church will observe the sacrament of the. Lord’s Supper at the Sunday morn ing service. The Westminister Fellow ship group will hold their regular meeting Sunday af ternoon at 4:45. Mrs. Harlan Holcombe will be hostess to the Women of the Church at her home on Thursday, the 13th. Newdale Presbyterian Rev. Troy Young, Temporary Pastor This church Is still with out a regular pastor, but have been greatly blessed the past few months by having In the pulpit every Sunday morning Rev. Troy Young, or, in a few Instan ces,visiting ministers. We are glad to report that both attendance and interest Is holding up well. Rev. Young announced Sunday that the General Assembly has set aside Jan uary until Easter of this year as a period of evange lism.
