Here is a record read ing, which was taken down here at our mountain wea ther station. 96 days with rains; 46 stor.TLs; 54 frosty mornings; 95 foggy morn ings; 25 snows; one hail storm. The hottest day recorded in 1965 here was on August 16th, with the temperature reaching into the 90’s with a 96 degrees reading.*’ The coldest morning in 1965, oc curred on Feb. 3rd, and Dec. Ist, with the thermometer dipping down to a reading of 04 degrees. 24 inches of snow fell here, during the year of 1965. 25 , / 2 inches of rain fell here dur ing the year. Only 4 light snows fell here during the first part of this season, which occurred from Octo ber to December 31st, 1965. So go the weather; still remains dry. One inch of rain fell here in this area last week, the first that had fell here in several weeks. The creeks and branches rose somewhat' after the" rains came. * They had been on the downward turn ever since August, which has been nearly 5 months. The rains was welcome to this immediately area. Springs are still considerably low, otherwise rose somewhat, when the rains came. » • » * Mr. and Mrs. Garfa Hugh es from Huntdale, N. C. vis ited with Mr. Hughes’ bro thers and a sister here Christmas day. Dewey Hughes of the Jake Hollow' area visited with his brothers here Christmas day, Park and Coway Hughes. Mrs. Sena Hughes of Hunt dale, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Aspie McCourry here at Sycamore Hollow, Christmas day. It was her first visit to the Hollow in several years. Actually was Mrs. Hughes’ second visit since she moved away approximately 16 years ago. Miss Elva Hughes visited with Mr. anl Mrs. Aspie Mc- Curry Christmas day, and also again on Dec. 28th. Wayne Murphy of Lenoir, N. C. visited with Park and Conway Hughes, here Dec. 4MPh It was his first visit In this area In several years. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Adkins moved from Marlon recently where they had lived for several years. They now live at the dwelling house that they purchased from Ephles Peterson at Pigeon Roost. Mr. Robert Peterson of Lenoir, N. C. visited the Hughes’ here at Byrd Creek, on Dec. 26th. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Miller of Tipton Hill visited with her relatives here Dec. 26-27. Mr and Mrs. Luther Hon eycutt spent the Christmas holidays at Charlotte, N. C. visiting with the children. Mr and Mrs. Paul Peter son of Mt. Holly, N. C. spent the Christmas holidays here visiting w'ith her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Hughes. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Miller visited with Mr. and Mrs. Seth Hughes here Dec. 27th. Mr and Mrs. Charlie Pet erson of Brummetts Creek THURSDAY, JAN. IS, WW visited Byrd Creek Jan. Ist. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Bar nett spent several days at Pennsylvania during Christ mas holidays, visiting with Mrs. Barnett’s relatives. Dennis Hughes went to Lenoir, Dec. 26th, to look for employment. Charles Laws and Rube Bennett were here recently on business. Several from this area at tended a preaching service on Sunday night,, Jan. 2nd, at Miller’s Chapel on Cane Rver, in Yancey County. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Barnett and daughter, Susan; Mr. and Mrs. Smith Hughes, and daughter, Teresa; Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Adkins, and 4 children; Rev. and Mrs. As pie McCourry, and Mr. and Mrs. Seth Hughes. The writ er accompanying them. Aspie McCourry and Con way Hughes recently visited with R. C. Byrd on business * at his Pigeon Roost home.
