The Newdale church is fortunate In having a very large number of children and young people in attendance. •• • • First Baptist, Burnsville For the seven Sunday mornings immediately pre ceding and including Easter the Pastor will be preaching a series of sermons on the subject, “JESUS SPEAKS FROM THE CROSS”. The first of these sermons will be Sunday, Feb. 27th, and will be taken from Luke 23-34 “Father Forgive Them”. The Training Union thus far this year has shown sub stantial growth over last year s record, with an aver- ~ age attendance of 63. This church puts a great deal of emphasis on the Training Union, since from this .or ganization come the future leaders of the church. The Association-wide mis- sions study held at the church Monday night, Feb. 21, was very well attended. A graded program of study was planned to Include all age groups. Teachers were from Mars Hill College,- and included Miss Mllderd Tho mas, teacher of adults and young people. The Intermed iates were taught by Mrs. Ronnie Owens; the Juniors by Mrs. Robert Melvin, and the Sunbeam Bands by Miss Carolyn Senter. The offering for the N. C. Baptist Homes for the Aging, taken Sunday the 20, and to be taken again on the 27th, showed a substantial in crease over the offering for last year. At present .Bap tists of N. C. have four hom es in operation, with a fifth to be started sometime in 1966. •• • • Burnsville Presbyterian The congregation of this church was very happy to hold their first service in one of the new church build ings on Sunday. This is what is termed a multi-purpose building, and will be used for the majority of the acti vities of the church, as wtll as for Sunday services until the new sanctuary Is finish el. The United Women of the Burnsville Church, meeting with Mrs. Don Burhoe Thu rsday evening, the 17th, were privileged to hear an explanation and discussion of the proposed Confession cf 1967 of the United Pres byterian Church of the U. S. A., led by Rev. Woodward Finley. Mrs. Eurhoe, Presi dent of the organization, presided over a business meeting. The devotional was given by Mrs. Finley.
