Report Not
Complete
According to Mrs. Tony
King, Publicity Chairman of
the Yancey County Heart
Fund drive, It will not be
possible to make a complete
report of the results of the
drive until all funds are In
from both county and the
town of Burnsville. Mrs King
would like to ask those peo
ple In rural areas who have
not been able as yet to con
tact their people, to please
do so promptly, and get their
report to Mrs. Alice Hopson
no later than March 15th,
when the drive will close.
This goes also for those peo
ple In Burnsville who have
not sent in their report. Al
so, If you were not at home
when the Sunday afternoon
visits were made, but you

In Charlotte
Johnny Fain, 26 of Char
lotte, formerly of Mlcavllle,
died Saturday, March 6th,
following open heart sur
gery in U N C. Memorial Hos
pital in Chapel Hill.
He was the son of Hal and
Georgia Harris Fain of
Charlotte, formerly of Mlca
vllle. He was a junior in
Mlcavllle High School when
he moved to Charlotte.
Mr. Fain Is survived by his
widow, Mrs. Mildred Harris
Fain of Charlotte; his par
ents; three sons, Joey, Wal
lace and Leon, one daugh
ter, Kim, of the home. Sur
viving also are three broth
ers, Danny with the U. 8.
Army stationed In France,
Micky and Hal, Jr., of Char
lotte; one sister, Miss Barah
Kay Fain of Charlotte, and
his paternal grandmother,
MTs. Ellen Fain of Lawn
dale, N. C.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, the Bth, at 2:30 p.
m. In Harrisburg Baptist
Church in Charlotte, pf

Burial was In the church

classes are now In progress
in the Deyton Elementary
School in Spruce Pine and
the South Toe School In
Yancey County.
Classes are being held on
Tuesday and Thursday even
ings from 6:30 to 9:30 p. m.
There are now five classes In
Mitchell county and four in
Yancey, with the possibility
of another class being start
ed in the South Toe area
soon.
This program is open to
any adult 18 years of age or
older who desire to Improve
their reading and writing
abilities. This phase of the
program is becoming 'more
and more important.
The other important phase
of Uils program is to bring
a person up to a level In
which he can pass the State
General Education Develop
ment test and receive the
High School equivalency cer
tificate which is Issued by
the State Department of
Public Instruction.
These classes are FREER
and all material will be fur
nished.
Yancey county residents in
the South Toe area may re
gister for the classes by com
ing to the South Toe School
on Thursday night, March
10 at 6:30 p. m., or by writ
ing to Mrs. Humphries at 225
Walnut Ave., Spruce Pine.

David is 15 years old and
has attended Camp Easter
In the Pines, at Southern
Pines, a camp for cfippled
children owned and operate
ed by the Easter Seal Soc
iety. He cites his experiences
at Camp Easter as the most
exciting of hla life, saying:
“I enjoyed the swimming, the
nature studies, the arts and
crafts! The food was won
derful and all the people
were so nice -o me.”
He also constantly talks of *
the outstanding beauty of
the setting of the Camp and
when visited by Easter Seal
state officers recently, he
Immediately said he wanted
to attend two sessions of the
camp next summer. —-

Asheville Orthopedic Hospi
tal and according to his
teachers Is a bright, respon
sive boy who makes good
grades.
