LOCALS Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Y.. Sargent atttended a dinner for Selective Service Person nel held at the Velvet Cioak Motel, Raleigh, on Tuesday. General Hershey, head of SeltCc.ve Service, was the speaker. While in Raleigh, Dr. and Mrs. Sargent took in many places of interest, in cluding the Museum of Art for the Blind, which is the only museum of its kind in the world. They made the trip by plane from Asheville. The w*>y the Cadre acted, we must have been doing everyth'ng wrong all the time. I may go to Viet Nam as a supply clerk, and it I go, my most memorable experience will probably be something that happens there.” Pvt. Bodford is the son of Mrs. Odette Penland of Bur nsville. and the late Cecil Bodford. Silver Aboard USS Blandy (E0954) USS BLANDY (DO-943) (FHTNC) Feb. 6- Seaman Lawrence A. Bilver, L'SN, son of Mr. Cloyce C. Silver of Route 1, Burnsville, N. C, is at sea aboard the U. S. Sixth Fleet destroyer USS Blandy, operating in the Mediterranean. The Blandy, flagship of Commander Destroyer Squad ron-2, will join other destroy ers in providing anti-submar ine, anti-a'r, and eunfire sun port for carrier s'riking groups in the Mediterranean. She is scheduled to visit ports in France, Italy, and Snain during her four-month cruise with the Sixth Fleet. 7 -rr/ Tomberlin Is Promoted V. 8. ARMY, VIETNAM (AHTAC) Oav.d R. Tom bernn, iO, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Tomberlin, Route 1, Box 229. Burrisville, N. C. was promoted to Army spec ialist fourth class Jan. 23 in Vietnam, where he is a mem ber of the 537th Transporta tion Company. Spec. Tomberlin, a mech anic, entered the Army in s ' January 1908 and was sta tioned at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md„ before arribing overseas in June 1968.
