Community Ac tion board of directors.. Af.er eating a meal prepar ed by several ladies from the L‘ck Log community, the 15 community representatives present spent about two hours talkirg about the responsibi lities of members of the W.A. MY. board of directors. The first conclusion reached by the beard members was that community representa tives should keep W.A.M.Y. staff members informed about problems in their own com munities, and should take an active voice in deciding hvw W.A.M.Y. programs were op «r ted in their communities. The community representa tives were then told by W.A. M.Y. Director Ernest Eppdey that they should also help plan future programs, to see that poor people received the greatest possible benefit from money- spent by WAM Y. It was agreed that board members should take respon sibility for seeing th-t, the Visitors reached poor families most needing their help. Watauga b:ard member Wise Mains said that he thought W.A.M.Y. should hire persons living in poor com munities, rather than sending In workers from other areas.: In d.scussing community problems, Avery board mem ber Waiter Vance of Blevins Creek said all the counties needed economic development projects that would provide jobs for poor people, and said he doubted whether the large amount of money invented in a new Avery county golf club/ would provide many jobs for unemployed persons in the county. Representing Yancey coun ty were Pate, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Connie Fender of Col bert’s Creek, and Mrs. Emily Hensley, an at-large repre sentative. February is American Heart Month!
