CHURCH NEWS Youth Night will be observed by the Yancey Association at the Bolens Creek Baptist Church Saturday beginning at 7:3CT p. m. Youth from Baptist Churches of the county are expected to par ticipate. Deanna Brooks, President of the French C.ub, presided. Miss Brooks sstated in her opening Miss Zoe Young, President of Women of the Church of New dale Presbyterian Church, at tended a Presbyterial meeting of Holston Presbytery, hp'd at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, Tenn., Tuesday, the 28th. •• • • Begimvng Sunday evening at 7:00, a special course of study will begin at H’ggins Memorial entitled “Christian Being and Doing”. This is a study based on the Book of James and First Peter, and will be taught by Rev. Warner. The Women’s Society of Chris tian Service will hold their re gular meet : ng Thursday evening at the church. This is the first meet'ng to be presided over by the new President, Mrs. Mack Ray. French Club Presents Assembly Program remarks that due to a conflict in dates of the basketball tour nament and National Foreign Language Week, the French C.ub had been glad to postpone the French program unt 1 the present. She stated that the theme of National Fcre.gn Lan guage Week was, “Stepping Ston es to W’orld Understanding”. Miss Brooks then read the Twenty-third Psalm, and the fol lowing prayer, composed by her mother, Mrs. Tillie Brooks: ::Our Father” that’s what we say ‘Our Father’, but I sup pose we don’t always mean it, because that would make us spiritual brothers to all men, and th:s idea is not always pleasing to us. “So we need your help Lord. “From experience we know that many persons whom we’ve d sliked on first meeting have become friends, when we really got to know them. So maybe your plan for helping us to feel our kinship with all people is by cur getting to know them bet ter too. “Each day the world of peo ple shrinks a little more. Amen.” Following this praver the French Club repeated the Twen ty-third Psalm in French. Susan Ohle then gave a brief report on the Singing Nuns, who spec’alize in singing French songs. Three of the ; r favorite songs were: Dominque, Tous Les Chenvna, and Mete Ton Joli Jupon. Janice Harris and Susan Ohle led the songs. They were accompanied on the guitar by' Jerry Clevenger and John Pen land. Next, Claudette Wilson opened her report by stating that Cin derello is really a French story and not English, as has been commonly supposed. Out of re spect for another country and culture, the French Club then THURSDAY. MARCH 30. 1967 gave the oath of allegiance to the American flag in French. They also sang the French Na tional Anthem, La Marseillaise. The program was concluded by the audience and French Club singing together The Star Spang led Banner, with Daryl Gibbs at the piano.
