Howell of Green Mounta ; n, has been initiated into Kappa Epsi lon, a natioanl Pharmacy Fra ternity for Women which was founded at the State Universitt of lowa in lowa City in 1921. The Alpha Delta Chapter was installed at the Southern School of Pharmacy in May 1960. Miss Howell was selected for the Dean’s L’st on the basis of her outstanding academic work for the fall and winter quarters. She recently spent her spring holidays at home with her par ents at Green Mountain. Garden Club Meets With Mrs. Proffitt The Garden Club met Friday at the home of Mrs. Charles Proffitt. Mrs. R. Y. Tilson was associate hostess and Mrs. W. A. Y. Sargent was program leader. Mrs. D. R. Fouts presided at the business session at which time projects for the club were discussed. It was suggested that the club initiate a “Garden at the Month” project, and plans were made to beautify the Square by planting flowers, projects will be discussed more fully at the next meeting. Mrs. Sargent introduced Mrs. Paul H. Fall who gave a pri gram on Wild Birds. Mrs. Fouts read a paper on how to make the wild birds useful and Mrs. Fall told of ways to tame wild birds. Mrs. Sargent read a poem "The Seed”. The poem could be interpreted as a gentle rebuke to those Who constantly critize our cherished institutions and traditions, and merits repeating here: A little seed lay on the ground, and soon began to sprout. Now which of all the flowers around— it mused—shall I come out? The lily’s face is fair and proud but just a trifle cold; THE YANCEY RECORD Mils Fox In Youth Jamboree Miss Raylene Fox, the three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fox of Rt 3. Burnsville, will represent the Bumsvillte Elementary School in , the Hubert Hays Mountain Youth Jamboree in the Asheville City Auditorium April 19, 20, 21 and 22. Miss Fox auditioned at the Hubert Hays Memorial Log Cab in and waa chosen to lead the entire jamboree group with the opening song, “Come Along Little Children” the 19th. She will also sing and dance to the Ballad of old Dan Tucker”. She will be the youngest mem ber of the jamboree. The rose. Until it woke one summer hour, and found itself a weed. Father-Son Banquet A “father and son supper” for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts. Ex plorers, their dads and leaders will be held in the Mars Hill School cafeteria at 7:00 o'clock, Saturday night, April 8. Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Explorer Posts from Madi son and Yancey counties will at tend the supper. In addition to the boys and their dads, all leaders, including Den Mothers, all unit, committee men, and all members of the Bald Mountain district commit tee have been invited to the sup per. Bald Mountain is the name of the new Scout district, which is made up of all Scouting units in the two counties. Tickets for the supper are fifty-cents each, and are avail able only through unit leaders. The program for the evening will include a roll call and re cognition of all Scout'ng units, a motion picture on Camp Dan iel Boone, group singing, a pre view of Scouting during 1967, and a short talk on Scouting. All dads are encouraged to take advantage of this “night out with the*r sons and secure their tickets from their son’s - leader by Wednesday, April 5. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
