The Garden Club met Friday
at the home of Mrs. Charles
Proffitt. Mrs. R. Y. Tilson was
associate hostess and Mrs. W. A.
Y. Sargent was program leader.
Mrs. D. R. Fouts presided at
the business session at which
time projects for the club were
discussed. It was suggested that
the club initiate a “Garden at
the Month” project, and plans
were made to beautify the
Square by planting flowers,
projects will be discussed more
fully at the next meeting.
Mrs. Sargent introduced Mrs.
Paul H. Fall who gave a pri
gram on Wild Birds. Mrs. Fouts
read a paper on how to make the
wild birds useful and Mrs. Fall
told of ways to tame wild birds.
Mrs. Sargent read a poem
"The Seed”. The poem could be

and soon began to sprout.

it mused—shall I come out?
The lily’s face is fair and proud
but just a trifle cold;

The rose. I think, is rather loud,
and then its fashions old;
The violet is all very well, but
not a flower that I’d choose,
Nor yet the canterbury bell
I’ve never cared for blues;
And so it critised each flower,
this supercilious seed.
Until it woke one summer hour,
and found itself a weed.
