If you haven’t visited the
fatalities on your National For
ests lately, then you aren’t
keeping up with what your tax
dollar is buying you. According
to Helton Carmichael, District
Ranger of the Toecane Ranger
District, National Forests in
North Carolina, there have been
numerous improvements to tre
Forests in Yancey County in
the past two years. Carmichael
stated that over a quarter of a
million dollars has been spent
over the last two years in man
agement and improvement of
the Toecane District of the
Pisgah National Forest here in
Yancey County.
Seme of the many improve
ments added to your National
Forest here include, hot srow
ers for campers visiting Caro-
Ilha Hemlocks Recreation area,
completion of a water system
and sewage system at Black
Mountain Campground, renova
tion of the Forest Service work
Center at Busick, upgrading of
20 m ; les of hiking trails in the
Forest, rehabilitation of miles
of trout streams, completion of
Black Mountan Campground on
South Toe River, new water
system at Carolina Hemlocks,
ercsion control on 75 acres of
eroded land, planted 500 acres
of non-productive land to White
Pine, provided scheduled pro
grams in summer for campers
and visitors to the Forest, in
staOed 65 informational signs
for the forest visitors, complet
ed a self-guided nature trail

is available for schools and
roads in Yancey County.
