Commencement exerc'ses will be held in Moore Auditorium cn the campus at 3 p. m. Dr. Fred Bentley, who is complet ng his first year as president of the college, will award the degrees and speak brefly to the gradu ates. There will be no commen cement address. This is a depar ture from a long established cus tom. It will give additional time for the awarding of degrees in dividually and for the recogni tion of various students who have wen honors. Baccalaureate services f:r the graduates will be held at ll a. m. in the auditorium wth Dr. Elmer West, pastor of the Mars Hill Baptist Church, as the speaker. A total of 194 of the degree candidates expect to receive the Bachelor of Science; 85 expect the Bachelor of Rrts degree; 16 others expect specialized degrees in music. / The Class of 1967 will be the fourth to receive degrees since THE YANCEY RECORD Mars Hill upgraded its program from junior to senior college status. A heavy schedule of vared activities concluding the school year will begin Friday w ! th the opening of a student art exhi bit. Other events will nclude business sessions of the board of trustees and the alumni associa tion, reunions of the classes of 1902, 1907, 1912, etc., the annual alumni banquet, and a perform ance of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night" by the division of dra matic arts. Dr. H. F. Robinson, dean of . research at N. C. State Univer s'ty in Raleigh, will be the ban quet speaker. Renowned fer his work in agricultural science, he will discuss world food prob lems, their possible solutions and the opportunities for service to mankind offered by these problems. During the banquet two dis t'nguished graduates of the col lege will be honored as “Alum na of the Year." Mrs. R. Knolan Benfield of Morganton will be recognized for her contr buttons as president of the state Wom an’s Missionary Union; and Dr. Joseph H. Miller of Memphis, Tenn. will be cited for his sig nificant work in the field of neurosurgery. Kathleen Nelson Named Western H.E. Agent MAI.EICIH _ re. A nat ve of Marietta, S. C... Mss Nelson graduated from Furman University, Greenville, S. C., with a degree in home ec oncmxs. She has done graduate work at the University of Ten nessee and North Carolina State Un versity. M ; ss Nelson was home econo m!cs Extension agent in Meck lenburg County for seven years before joining the State staff. Before that she taught home eco nomics and was an extension home economics agent in South Carolina. Miss Nelson is a member of the American and North Caro lina Home Economics Assoc;a tions and in 1965, she served as presdent of the North Carolina Associatton of Extension Home Economics.
