OBITUARIES f MRS. R. L BUCHANAN Mrs. R. L. Buchanan, 80. died at 7:30 p. m. Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Char lie Hall of Newdale following a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Wil son Dellinger and a member of Concord Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Hall are the husband; three oth er daughters, Mrs. Ra'ph Lewis of Enka, Mrs. Frank Hall and Mrs. Lloyd Beckwith, both of Asheville; two sens, T. A. of Burnsville and Paul Buchanan of Asheville: a sister, Mrs. P. B. Hensley of Burnsville; four brothers, Ra’ph of Burnsville, C’aude of Newdale, Henry of Asheville and Elbert Dellinger of Frrt Lauderda’e, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services were held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday in Newdale Pre sbyterian Church. The Rev. Alvin Jones and the Rev. Melvin Hester officiat ed and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Wade and David Hall, Ronald Beckwith, Robert Bishop, Wade Styles, Ted Fox and Keith and Donald Buchanan. Marshmallow 1 Lb. Board Meets Tonight In Crossnore The Board of Directors of W.A.M.Y. Community Action, Inc. will meet Thursday night Mr. Bowen Passes The Burnsville friends of Mr. Harry Bowen will be saddened to learn of his death, which oc curred Sunday in Bethesda, Md., where the Bowens had been liv ing for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Bcwen came to Burnsville with Duplin Mills, and he later be came associated with the Firth Plant. Beth Mr. and Mrs. Bowen were active in the work of the Higgins Memorial Methodist Church and civic organizations. They have many friends in Burnsville. Mrs. Bowen’s home is: 6807 Fairfax Road, Bethesda, Md. 20014. Card Os Thanks The family of Edna H. Taylor would like to thank their friends and relatives for the many kind nesses shown them during her illness and death. The Family of Edna H. Taylor to consider plans for its next year of operation. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p. m. at the Crossnore High School Cafeteria. The Community Action Pro gram now in operation will be completed on September 30. 1967. The new program will run frem October 1, 1967, to Sep tember 30, 1968. Plans that will be presented by the W.A.M.Y. staff to the Board for action call for con tinuation by the W.A.M.Y. staff of all programs now' in opera tion. • Some changes in administra tion of the programs have been proposed to improve their effec tiveness, and to provide closer teamwork and coordination with other local agencies. After the Board approves a final version of the new Com munity Action Program, the plans will'be submitted to the Office of Economic Opportunity in Washington for funding. The OEO provides most of the mon ey for W.A.M.Y. programs, al though about 12 per cent comes frem local sources— mostly in the form of free office space and volunteer work. All W.A.M.Y . Directors are urged to attend this meeting. The meeting is open to the public. Library Announces Summer Hours Yancey County Public Library located on Academy St. in Bur nsville announces its opening hours for this summer. The lib rary will be open Monday thro ugh Friday from 8:00 a. m. un til 8:00 p. m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 a. m. until 5:30 p. m. In addition to longer opening hours, the library staff with the assistance of college students employed under the P. A. C. E. program will conduct frequent story hours for children both in the library and at selected com munity centers throughout Yan cey County. A number of weekly or twice weekly film programs are also planned. Any organization or group desiring to have film pro grams this summer are urged to call the library at 682-2600, or to drop in and make arrange ments for the same. A project ionist as well as all equipment is provided and the library has mere than 1,500 films available on a loan basis from the State Adult Film Project. No charge is made for this service or for the films. Yancey County Public Library is a participating member of the Avery-Mitchell-Yancey Re gional Library. *KB YANCEY RECORD Wright With N.C. State Park By: Shirley Anne McAllister N. Y. C. enrollee, Darrell Wr’ght from Bee Leg was sure there was something bigger in life than setting trees with the Reforestation Crew. Not that theySre not doing a good job, but there was something else fir him. He was placed with the N. C. Division of Forestry. From there he even went| further, he is now employed by the N. C. Division of State Park at Mt. Mitchell. Mr. Robert Wilson, Park Sup ervisor, says, “Darrell has work ed out fine in his work.” “He’s doing a real good job; shows initive and is well natured," says Bob Ensley, Ranger, 11. Darrell says, "I’m really en joying my work. I work 6 days * on Mt. Mitchell policing the grounds, clean up, etc. I am al so tending a tobacco patch. As you can see I’m pretty busy.” Yes, Darrell has found a place for himself. If he decides * to stay at Mt. Mitchell he can learn and grow as well as work. The olive tree is highly valued as a landscape orna mental for yards and gardens.
