Higgins Named On Dean's list HORACE HIGGINS, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Higgins, Burnsville, North Carolina, made the Dean’s List at North Caro lina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina during the spring semester that ended in May. Mr. Higgins is in the U. S. Mar ine Corps Reserve and is on a two-weeks’ training cruise with the Fleet Marines at this time. Mr. Higgins has made the dean’s list four times during his five years in college. Allen promoted U. S. ARMY, VIETNAM (AHTNC) Edward L. Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carnal C. Allen, Route 6, Burnsville, N. C., was promoted to Army spec ialist four May 24 near Qui Nhon, Vietnam, where he is ser ving with the 848th Quartermas ter Platoon. Spec. Allen, a supply special ist, entered the Army in March 1966, completed his basic train ing at Ft. Gordon, Ga., and was last stationed at Ft. Lee, Va. He arrived overseas in Novem ber of last year. The 20-year-old soldier is a 1965 graduate of East Yancey High School, Burnsville, N, C. THE YANCEY RECORD The Micaville Presbyterian Wcmen cf the Church will meet Monday night, June 26, 1967, at 7:30 o’clock at the church. The Bible study from Luke 7:36-50 will be led by Mrs. Ralph Tomberlin. •• • • Martin’s Chapel Methodist Church and Windom Methodist Church, both under the _charge of Rev. Alvin Jones, icldsed very successful Vacation/Bible Scho ols Sunday, with commencement .exercises at the Windom church at 6:00 p. m., and Martin's Chapel at 7:30 p. m. The schools ran for six days climaxing with a picnic fcr each group on Saturday. Heading the different departhents for Martin’s Chapel school were Mrs. Alvin Jones, Fay Tipton, Nell McMahan, Frances Wyatt and Helen Mc- Kinney, along with a group of teen-age helpers. Heading the departments for Windom were Rev. Alvin Jones, Millie Hensley and Carolyn McCanless. Martin’s Chapel had an average attend ance cf about 63; while windom chalked up an attendance of 48. •* • • Congratulations to Windom Me thodist Church. This church is now debt-free. Dedication ser vices will be held Sunday at the 11:00 worship service.
