with performances Aug. 18, 19,
21, 22. Pure “ham” and “com”
are the by-words for this pro
duction. The mellerdrammer
will include scngs and dances be
tween acts and within the play,
a hero, a heroine, and a villian.
C. Robert Jones, head of drama
at Gardner-Webb College, and
former director of the Savannah
Little Theatre, will be guest dir
ector for this production. Jones
has his master of fine arts de
gree from Catholic University in
Washington, D. C., in drama.
The season will close with Car
,. ol Burnett’s laugh-filled musi
,cal comedy, ONCE UPON A
-i MATTRESS. This was Miss
Burnett’s first starring vehicle.

ed at the Playhouse. College,
prospective college, and gradu
ate students may register for as
many as six hours of courses
for credit, through the Exten
sion Division of the University
of North Carolina at Greensboro,
where Kerns is a member of the
Drama and Speech Faculty.

tion, to familiarize with various
aspects of pay production;
Makeup; Rehearsal, Perform
ance and Production I and II
guided practice in actual play
production: Roles and Scenes,

scenes from modern plays; and
Experimentation —for advan
ced students to experiment in
the creative process of any facet
of theatre.
Teachers who need renewal
credits may find the course of
value, especially those in charge
of class and school plays, or
those responsible for assemblies
and other entertainments. Three
of the courses offered will also
apply towards the masters de

Stutts Appointed Assistant
Stout Executive
Mr. Morris Lipinsky, Presi
dent of the Daniel Boone Coun
cil, Boy Scouts of America, an
nounces the employment of Mr.
Elbert Stutts as Assistant Scout
Executive of the council. Mr.
and Mrs. Stutts and their dau
ghter Sharon Kay are residing
in the Beverly Hills section of
Arheville, N. C.
Mr. Stutts comes to us from
the Occoneechee Council in Ral
eigh where he served as a Dis
trict Executive and later a Field
Director with a staff of seven
men serving over 9,500 boys in
428 Scouting units. He directed
the council’s annual operating
budget of $350,000 of which
$170,000 was Sustaining Mem
bership Enrollment representing
the second largest enrollment in
the Nation. He also directed oth
er major council activities.
He began his professional
career as a District Executive
in the Cape Fear Area Council
in Wilmington, N. C„ and since
that time has tied for leader
ship in Region VI for the most
Regional awards earned for
unit and membership growth.
He has attended Scouting’s pro
fessional leadership schools and
has had years of experience in
staff leadership.
THE YANCEY RECORD
Mr. Stutts has a business and
military background prior to
his entrance into Professional
Scouting. He has traveled ex
tensively in the eastern world
as well as the United States.
He also served in numerous
capacities as a volunteer leader
in Scouting. His Professional
career has encompassed service
in nineteen Scout districts. He
attended Duke University and
Stanford University. He is a
Presbyterian and has just com
pleted a book entitled “The
Humanitarian Approach t o
Management.”
The Daniel Boone Council is
fortunate to attact a man of Mr.
Stutts’ background and experi
ence. We extend to him and his
