Wool Producers To Receive Raise Wool producers will receive a penny a pound more for 1968 marketings of shorn wool, it was anm unced by J. W. Tomberlin, Chairman for the Yancey Agri cultural Stabilization and Con servation Service. The U. S. Department of Ag riculture has announced a shorn wool incentive price of 67 cents a pound, Tomber’.in said. The support price for mohair will be 77.4 cents a pound, also a penny higher than the present support price. The price of pulled wool will be supported at a level compar able to the incentive price for shern wool. Tomberlin said shorn wool payments will be eaua' to a per centage of each producer’s re turns frem sales. The percen tage will be that required to raise the national average price received by all producers from shorn wool up to the announced 67 cents a pound. Tomberlin pointed out that the 1968 support program will be carried out under the Na tional Wool Act cf 1954, as amended by the Food and Agri culture Act of 1965, which ex tends the wool and mohar pay ment program through 1969 and prescribes the formula which sets the support price fer wool. Payments to producers in North Carolina cn 1968 calendar year marketing will be made beginning in April of 1969. Ap plications for such payments must be fill'd not later than January 31. 1968. W.N.C.
