Sabrina competed in the Junior Queen event of the Rhododendron Festival. She was first runner-up and won the tal ent event of the Festival. The Burnsville Plant of Mo hasco Industries will ba closed fi r two weeks vacation, beginn ing Monday, July 3rd until Mon day. July the 17th. The em ployees of Glen Raven Silk Mill wi'l be on a one week vacation, beginning week of July second. Steve Boone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Boone of Burnsville, who is in the Reserves, left Tuesday for Fort Lewis, Wash ington, for a seven to nine mon ths tour of duty. He will be in Officer Candidate School, and when graduated will hold the rank of Second Lieutenant. Steve is married to the former Janice Buchanan. Cynthia Chrisawn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Chrisawn of Rt. 5, who has been teaching the past year at Air Force Base, Myrtle Beach, S. C., has been visiting her parents. She left Wednesday for Miami Beach, where she will take stewardess paining for Eastern Airlines. THURSDAY, JUNE 29, 1967 ant. Mrs. Bryant was in charge of the pre-school staff children. Senior Scouts who assisted were Patricia Randolph, Bonnie Hess, Cathy Silver, Denise Piercy, Cordelia Miller, Linda Deyton, and Gayla Cooper. Dwight Butner was in charge of the 7 and 8 year old boys, > children of staff members. Dwight is a Boy Scout, and de velcped his own program with the group, and also assisted the camp staff. The camp program was de signed to be an on-going part of the troop program, so that skills learned could carry over into the fall program. Brownie Scouts earned two certificates. The Brownie Camp Crafter and the Brownie Art Crafter. Juniors named their unit ‘‘Minnie-Ha-Ha” and continued exploring the world of Indian lore. The younger Juniors com pleted some requirements for the Gypsy Badge. Camp craft skills were gained by all Jui * iors as they worked in patrols to set up their camp, which in cluded five tents, two hand washing stations, two fire rings and a kitchen for the overnight on Thursday. All Cadettes, or the “Lazy Daisy” Unit, completed require ments for the Camp Crafter badge, which testecj such skills as: Fires and fireplaces, out door cookery, toolcraft, rope craft, gear, compass and map, safety and outdoor citizenship. A camp fire program was held on Thursday evening at 8:30. A good turn-out of parents attended the program. The Ca dette Troop the “Lazy Daisies” were in charge of the “Scouts Own” ceremony, which was on friendship. They also laid the ceremonial camp fire. The Junior Troop gave the Indian’s version of the Twenty third Psalm, and also presented an Indian dance. The Senior Troop gave a pro gram of folk singing. Special guests for supper on Thursday night were Dr. Gar land Wampler, Camp physician, Mrs. W. A. Y. Sargent, Council Board Member, and Paul Woot en, U. F. Chairman. The Cadette and Junior Troops spent the night on Thursday night. Mrs. 0. W. Deyton, Field Ad visor for Pisgah Council, was advisor co the Administrative staff, assisting with day camp operations. Mrs. Deyton stated that the Day Camp was very successful Miss Cm, Miss Proffitt Enter Summer School Janet Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace H. Cox, Rt. 1, Relief, N. C„ and Dana Proffitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Proffitt, Rt. 1, Burnsville, N. C., have entered East Tennes see State University for the summer session. Janet has begun a three year pre-med course before entering the University of Tennessee to study medicine. Dana is majoring in Home Economics and minoring in Art. She plans to do interior decor ating ami design.
