Higgins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edd C. Higgins of Rt. 1, Burnsville, N. C., has been graduated from the special training course for C-141 flight engineers at Tinker AFB, Okla. The sergeant is being assigned tm Charleston AFB, S. C„ for duty with the Military Airlift Command which provides global airlift, air rescue, aeromedical evacuation, air weather and air photographic and geodetic ser vices for U. S. forces. Sereeant Higgins has served in Vietnam. The sergeant was graduated from C’earmont High School, Day Book, N. C. His wife, Ruth, is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ackers of 1342 Jeanette St., Abilene, Tex THE YANCEY RECORD States June 15 to take part in FPC’s Summer Institute Abroad on the culture of Germany. Centered in Freiburg in the Black Forest region, the Insti tute seeks to develop an increased understanding of German litera ture and the arts, socio-econo mic and political problems. Highlights of the Institute will be a trip on the Rhine River and visits to both sectors of Ber lin. Before returning on August 19, the group will spend two days in London. The Institute on the culture of Germany is one of five pro grams offered this summer by Florida Presbyterian in coopera tion with Austin College, Florida State University, Davidson Col lege and St. Andrews Presby terian College. Seme students are also study ing and traveling in China (Hong Kong and Taiwan), Britain (Lon don and Brighton) and Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto) in FPC’s Summer Institute Abroad. A special program on Social Work and Social Welfare in Eng land and on the Continent is al so being conducted this year. Additional Summer Institutes on the culture of Africa, the Caribbean, India and Latin Am erica will be offered by Florida Presbyterian College in 1968. Hughes Completes Training FT LEONARD, WOOD, MO. (AHTNC) Army Private John ny W. Hughes. 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Hughes, Route 2, Burnsville, N. C.. completed eight weeks of advanced train ing as a combat engineer June 23 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. During his training, he re ceived instruction in combat squad tactics, use of infantry weapens and engineer reconnais sance. He also was trained in the techniques of read and bridge building, camouflage, and de molitions. New Club Members The following new members have been added to the Yancey County Gallon Club: One Gallon: Vaughtie Jones (Mrs. Milton), Mary L. Silver (Mrs. Leßoy). Two Gallons: Calvin Wheeler. Three Gallon: Carmon C. Ogle. The next visit of the Red Cross Bloodmobiie to Burnsville will be August 23.
