Mrs. Haghes Hostess To Homemakers Clot Thudsday night, June 22, Mrs. Florence Hughes was hostess to the Brush Creek Homemakers’ Club. .An interesting program, led by Mrs. Alice Hopson, on the preservation of foods was given. At a previous meeting the Club voted to create some inter est by presenting to the mem bers with birthdays falling In that month a small gift. Several members received gifts at this meeting. Recreational Program at Bald Creek A special summer recreational program has been started at the Bald Creek Elementary School fer all children and young peo ple, both boys and girls, in Bald Creek and the surrounding ar eas. It is supervised by Rev. Allan McKinney, pastor of the Ivy Gap Baptist Church. The program is held every week on Tuesday afternoon "beginning at 5:00 and will continue until school starts in August. Activi ties planned for this summer in clude: softball, volleyball, swim ming, picnics, and other games. Special interest groups will be started for the younger children who come. Refreshments will be served at each weekly meet ing. So if you want to have a good time this summer, come cn out to Bald Creek School every week for an hour or so of fun and play. Airman Third Class Rodney L. Devton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Dey ten of Rt. 1, Burnsville, N. C., has been graduated from the V. S. Air Force technical training school at Keesler AFB, Miss. He completed the course for U. S. Air Force radar operators conducted by the Air Training Command which provides techni cal and specialized education programs for the nation’s aero space force. He is being reassigned to Gu thrie Air Force Station, Va., as a member of the Air Defense Command. Airman Deyton was graduated from East Yancey High School. (K 0474) DA NANG, VIETNAM (FHTNC) June 26 Marine Lance C rporal Charles R. Hu ghes, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Hughes of Micaville, N. C., took in “Operation Union II” south of Da Nang, Vietnam while ser ving with the Second Battalion, Fifth Marine Regiment, First Marine Division. The operation is considered by Marines as one of the largest and most successful military op erations in Vietnam. During the eleven-day sweep through the area, the Leathernecks account ed for more than 600 of the enemy killed, with 400 of that figure being killed ip just two days of fighting. While in Vietnam, his regi ment forms the ground element of the Marine Corps air-ground team, and conducts large scale search and destroy operations aeainst the enemy in South Vietnam.
