REV. JOE BARNETT By: Donald McCourry Rev. Joe Barnett, age 79, of the Tipton Hill area passed away late Monday evening, July 24, while on his way home from the store. Barnett was found laying in or near the road near his home. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday at the Pigeon Roost Fundamental Brethren Church of which he was a member. He is survived by his widow, several sons and daughters, one brother and several sisters. Barnett had lived nearly all his life in Mitchell County. He lived several years in Pennsyl vania. He moved back to Mitch ell County several years ago. Mrs. Higgins Word has been received here of the death Thursday, July 27, of Mrs. Kate Hyatt Higgins of Rockwell, Md. Burial took place Saturday in Gastonia. Mrs. Hig gins, who grew up in Burnsville, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hyatt, and had many relatives and friends in Burnsville and Yancey County. She was married to the late Rev. Tom Higgins, also of Bur nsville. She is survived by two daughters, one son, two sisters and one brother. Ham Donald Duck Kraft French jpE. Edward Harris, 73, died at his home in Micaville Satur day morning. A native of Flag Pond, Tenn. he had lived in Yan cey County for the past 50 years. He was a retired employee of Feldspar Milling Co., Micaville. He is surviijpd by the widow, Nell K. Harris; three daughters, Mrs. R. S. Whitaker, Charlotte, Mrs. Jewell Nunnally of Mica ville, and Mrs. Jay Hilliard of Burnsville; three sons, Tommy of Erwin, Tenn., Billy of Cane River and Jimmy of Micaville; one brother, Lee Harris of Mica ville and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services were hg|d at the Micaville Presbyterian ,Chur ch at 2:30 p. m. Monday. The Rev. John Powers and the Rev. Frank Chapo officiated. Burial was in Carroway Cemetery. Cub Scout Troop 504 will ap pear on the Mr. Bill and Bozo Show over WLOS-TV., Asheville on Saturday morning at 8 a. m. D. G. McClure, Cub Master, took his scouts to Asheville on Tuesday evening when the pro gram was taped. Troop 504 consists of more than 25 boys from Burnsville and Bald Creek.
