Boy Stout Leaders To Meet c Nine professional leaders of the Daniel Boone Council, Boy Scouts of America, will meet on September 14-15 at Myrite Beach Air Force Base With Scout executives of nearby ar eas to learn of changes in the improved Cub Scout program maae after careful research, painstaking study, and field re action. In turn local leaders present the program to Cub Scout lead ers at the October roundtable meetings. A research study obtained the best possible knowledge, experi ence, and opinions about the needs, characteristics, and de sires of boys of Cub Scout age and their family and group in terests and reviewed and ap praised current practices in Cub Scouting. The findings were eva luated during The pro posed improved program was shared with leaders in 68 meet ings across the Nation. Program changes seek to im prove the appeal of Cub Scout ing, attract mere boys and, hold them for 3 years, and encourage them to enter Boy Scouting at 11 years of age. Gurley, 53, of Rt. 5, died in a local hospital Sun day afternoon after a long ill ness. He was a crane operator and had been emp’oyed by Troitino tc Brown Construction Co., for 19 years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mae Bolick Gurley; four daugh ters, Mrs. Wanda Carroll of Garden City, Mrs. Barbara Bal lew of Burnsville and Misses Aileen and Marsha Gurley, both of the home: three sons, J o of Burnsville and Jerry and Lar ry Gurley, both of the home; the stepmother, Mrs. Ethel Bur gin Gurley of Burnsville; three brothers, Cecil of Lenoir, Paul of Burnsville and Alfred of Ax ton, Pa.; two stepsisters, Mrs. Alice Gurley of Lenoir and Mrs. Edna Bowdage of Burnsville; three stepbrothers, Alvin, Cecil and W. C. Gurley all of Burns ville; four grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Celo Methodist Chur ch, of which he was a member. The Rev. Alvin Jones and the Rev. John Murphy officiated. Burial was in the Ballew Ceme tery. THE YANCEY RECORD BOYD JOHNSON Funeral services for Boyd Johnson, 79, retired Yancey County farmer, who died last Friday morning in Yancey Hos pital were held Saturday at 3:00 p. m. in Deyton Bend Methodist Church. The Rev. Baxter Prof fitt officiated and burial was in Woody Cemetery. Surving are one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Howell; five sons, An drew, Kenneth and Buren of Green Mtn., Lloyd of Johnson City, Tenn., and Ray of Marion, N.
