LOCALS The children of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Coletta are traveling in all directions in their college career. Miss Frances Coletta left last week for Greensboro, N. C., where she will complete her fin al semester as a senior in Home Economics in the field of Institu tional Management at the Uni versity of NC-G. Theresa Coletta left Sunday for Knoxville, Tenn., where she will begin her senior year at the University of Tenn essee. David Coletta left Mon day for Boone, N. C., where he will enter his senior year at Ap palachian State University. Dav id is editor cf the school paper. Rev. and Mrs. Alvin Jones of Newdale had as guests over the week-end Mrs. Jones’ sister, Mrs. Carlton Grayson, Mr. Grayson and children. Miss Cathy Cooper, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Hal Cooper of Burnsville, has entered East Tennessee University as a fresh man. The supervisors of Glen Raven Silk Mills enjoyed a fine steak supper Tuesday night at the Bur hoe cottage at Lake Tahoma. Mrs. Ed Geouge of Rt. 2 is undergoing treatment in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. Mr and Mrs. O. W. Deyton and children visited her parents 'in South Carolina last week-end. Meeting » The Browns Creek Baptist Church hosted an Associatinnal Girls Auxiliary party at their church in Celo Monday night. Games were led by Rev. Harold McDonald. Miss Ethel Boone en tertained with a story. A largo group of girls from the various churches enjoyed the occasion. Mr. Hunter Speaks To P.T.A. Members The Burnsville Elementary School P.T.A. held their first meeting of the year Tuesday night, the 19th, in the school auditorium. Mrs. Donald Burhoe, who was elected President at the ’ast Executive Committee, having resigned, Mrs. Oscar Deyton was e.ecieu to take her place. Mrs. Deyton presided, and called upon Rev. Harold Mc- Donald for the devotional. Mr. Edgar Hunter, Jr„ Prin cipal of the school, spoke inter estingly on new school legisla tion passed in the last General Assembly. Following the program a bus iness meeting was held, at which time it was voted" for the school to hold a Harvest Festival in October. A Committee was nam ed to head the Festival. The group enjoyed a social hour and refreshments which were served by the P.T.A. hos tesses. Girl Scouts Attend Manning Board Meeting Tliree Senior Girl Scouts who represented Troop 66 of Burns ville at the Senior Planning Board meeting at Camp Pisgah last weekend were: Gavla Cooper, Linda Deyton, and Cat hy Silver. Purpose of the meet ing was to provide an opportun ity for delegates from Senior Troops throughout the Pisgah Girl Scout Council area to get together in a planning session for this year’s activities. In ad dition to a full schedule of pa trol meetings committee assign ments, reports and decisions, the Senior Scouts included fun time, swimming, canoeing, and a Sun day morning worship service For all girls attending, this was “Wider Opportunities in Artion”. Office /Moved The Appalachian Development Commission office, also known as the Mountain Scenic Econo mic Development Commission, has recently moved from the Avery County Courthouse to the 2nd floor of the Dave Hughes Building in Newland. The fall and winter office hours are from 8:30 a. m. until S:3O p. m. WAMY Beard Meeting Sept. 26 The regular September meet ing of the W.A.M.Y. Community Action Board of Directors will be held September 26 at 7:30 p m. in the cafeteria of the Cross nore High School. The Board's Executive Com mittee will meet in the cafeter ia at 7 p. m., preceeding the meeting of the full board. Reports on the progress of three programs Head Start. Crafts, and the Neighborhood Youth Corps—will head the agenda, which will also include discussion of the new C mmun ity Action Program now await ing approval from Washington, and a report from the agency's planning staff. Hoke, Jr. Washington, D. C. Miss Celia Coletta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter C. Coletta of Burnsville, N. C., became the bride of Mr. Charles L. Hoke. Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Hoke of Emporia, Va., in a candlelight ceremony performed at the High Altar of the Cathed ral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul on Saturday, September 16 at 6 o’clock in the evening. The double ring ceremony was performed by The Reverend Will iam G. Workman, Canon of the Cathedral. Purcell’s “Tune in Air" was played as the process ional. The wedding party retired to Purcell’s “Trumpet Volun taire." Bach’s in D Minor” was also induuded in the ceremonial music. The bride, escorted to the al tar by her brother, Mr. David Chase Coletta of Burnsville, was lovely in an ivory gown of re embroidered Alencon lace over silk organsa and taffeta. The em pire bodice of the dress featur ed a wedding ring collar and cap sleeves. Handsewn seed pearls and brillants highlighted the gown. Her chapel length Watteau train of silk organza flowered over a modified A-line skirt. The short, buoffant bridal veil of French illusion fell from a band of Alencon lace She car ried a bouquet of stephanotis and white roses. Pearl earrings and sixteen button ivory kid gloves completed the wedding ensemble. Mrs. Robert Neal Weidner of Riverdale, Md„ served as mat ron of honor. She wore a floor gown of yellow penrlized fabric styled with a wedding ring neck Ii nr and cap sleeve* reminiscent of the bride’s THURSDAY, SEPT. 21. 1967 Her headpiece was of bouffant veiling attached to a pearlized band. Mrs. John Cahill of Alexan dria, Va., was the bridesmaid. She wore a blue gown and head piece identical to that of the matron of honor. Both attendants carried cascade bouquets of chrysanthemums in fall tones. Mr. Charles L. Hoke. Sr., was his son’s best man. Groomsmen included Dr. Mehdi Heravi, Teh ran, Iran; Mr. Arvlnd Krishna, New Delhi, India; and Dr. Harry F. Hoke, Richmond, Va. In special attendance were the Misses Frances, Theresa and Irene Coletta of Burnsville, sis ters of the bride, and Miss Re becca Morrison of Asheville, N. C., cousin of the bride. The bride’s mother chose a dress and coat ensemble of blue lace over satin with matching feather hat and accessories. She chose a white orchid corsage to complete her outfit. Mrs. Hoke wore a costume of romance pink chiffon with matching cocktail length lace coat and accessor ies. Her headdress was a cage veil of clusters of matching lace. She also wore a white orchid.
