Postmaster Urges Early
Christmas Mailing
The Post Office Department
breaks records for mail volume
every Chrisj«as but 1967 may
break mvre records than any
previous year, Postmaster Buck
said today.
In urging local citizens to mail
early for Christmas, Mr. Buck
said the four-state Atlanta Re
gion, of which hs office is a
part, will handle 100 million
more pieces of ma 1 this Christ
mas than last year. -
“This increase alone is equal
to the total volume of mail in
s r me countries for an entire
m nth,” he said.
“Unless the people cooperate
and get their Christmas mailing
done early, we are going to be
hopelessly swamped just before
Christmas,” he said. “Things
will get awfully chaotic.”
Mr. Buck said Regional Dir
ector C. Banks Gladden today
informed h m that the volume of
mail to be '< handled in North
Carolina, South Carolina, Geor
gia and Florda will total 1,278,-
700,000 (Billion) pieces in Dec
ember an increase of 100
mllion rr 8.4 per cent over last
December.
The postmaster emphasized
this figure represents the total
incoming and outgoing peces to
be handled by all postal stations,
which is the bass for de’cim'n
ing the amount of Crhistmas
employment.

Welcome Home,
Ex-Mayor
Helmle
Seeing Robert K. Helmle on
the streets of Burnsville again
is a welcomed sight. He left
here some months ago to reside
in Sedona, Arizona, with his
family.
i*u. Helmle was mayor of
Burnsvlle for a 6-year period
prior to moving to Arizona. And
during the number of years he
resided here, during hs terms
as mayor and before, most of
his time was spent on projects
and with civ'c organizations to
see that Burnsville and Yancey
County would be a better place
in which to live.
We are sure that the majority
of Burnsville citizens join us in
giv ng Mr. Helmle a hearty
welcome home.
