CHURCH NEWS Rev. and Mrs. Alvin Jones of Newdale have returned to their home, after a week at Salter Path, N. C. Rev. Jones was the evangelist for a week’s revival at the Salter Path Methodist Church. Salter Path is a very small island just off the N. C. coast in the Morehead area. It has approximately 500 inhabit ants. While there they were guests in the home of the pas tor, Rev. and Mrs. Foster Rey nolds. They report a very suc re'«:ful meeting, with 58 con verts. •• • • THE YANCEY RECORD Mr. Phil Sales, the Asheville District lay leader, will be the guest speaker fer the morning service at Higgins Memorial Methodist Church Sunday, the 29th. This is in conjunction with "Laymen’s Day" in the Meth odist Church. Charles Gillespie, Jr., Higgins Memorial lay lead er, will lead the service. The Sunday morning worship service will be conducted by the ladies of the church, who will use as their theme “Prayer and Self Denial." •• • a Rev. Stephen Woodward, pas tor of Newdale Presbyterian Church, and Rev. John Powers of the Micaville Presbyterian Church, attended a meeting of the Holston Presbytery at Jef ferson City, Teim., on Tuesday of this week. The women of Newdale Pres byterian Church and friends honored Mrs. Keith Styles with a “stork shower" in the church fellowship hall on Saturday night, thd 14th. Approx’irately 35 guests were present for the occasion. The rummage sale conducted by the women of the Newda’e Presbyterian Church is still going strong. Thev are open for bus'ness each Friday and Sat urday in a building on old 19E just back of Parsley Brothers £‘ore at Newdale. Hard surfacing of the parking areas and driveways at this church are a great addition to the church grounds. •• 9 m The assnciational school of church music now go : ng on at First Baptist Church g* off to a fine start, with an enrollment of 112. The school will continue each night Monday through Thursday, beginning at 7:00, and will be climaxed on Fk-.day night with an old fashioned hymn aing, plus special snging by the Adults and Young People’s choirs, the Intermediates and the Juniors. Teachers for the school are Adults and Young Pecple, Mr. Charles Gatewood; Intermediates, Mr. A1 Mellnlk; Juniors, Mr. Alan Cantrell. The Intermediates Training Union Dept, of Fjst Baptist will be given a Halloween party on Saturday night, the 28th. The 1968 church budget will be presented to the members of the First Bapt st Church on Sunday morning, the 29th.
