East Yancey High News FRENCH CLUB Mary Hess, Reporter On November the third, Le Cercle Francais of East Yancey High School composed of thirty n.ne stuuents tCuK a bus tr p to Pinehurst, North Carolina. They were accompanied by their French teacher, Mrs. Grffith ai.j ivirs. Cecil Anglin mother of one of the students. Also their good natured and patient bus driver, Mr. Harold Wyatts. The Yancey County act.vity bus was the source of transportation. The purpose of going to Pine hurst was to eat in a French restaurant with a French atmos phere. There were two choices for a meal. One choice was a beef course composed of Boeuf, Saute Bourgigon Coquille, St. Jacques, and the other was sea food. They were both very good arked in the French manner. After leaving the restaurant the group toured Pnehurst which is an unusual resort town. Everyone paired a better know ledge of French food, customs and atmosphere from th ; s trip. There will be approxi mately 15 students from each grade. The Stanford Achieve ment Test measures a students’ achievement in math, English, reading, science, social stud'es. spelling, arts and humanites, business and economics and tech nical comprehens : on. SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST The Scholastic Aptitude' Test of the College Entrance Exami nation Board, will be given to the juniors and seniors of East Yancey High School and num erous other high schools on Dec ember 2. This test is required for admissions to mo6t of the colleges n the U. S. The SAT measures both verbal and mathe matical aptitude. It is taken on ly by those juniors and seniors who are planning to further their education In college. BUS DRIVERS Currently a class for prospec tive bus drivers is being con ducted at East Yancey High School by Mr. Bobby Thomas, Yancey County Bus Examiner. Upon completion of their class work students will be tested for bus drivers. At present bus drivers at East Yancey expect their school jack ets anytime. SENIOR CLASS RINGS The senior ciass rjjgs arrived on ivu.nuay, November 6. All seniors were h.ghiy p.eased with ti*eir r.ngs for this year. Rings were ordered in a variety of sizes and colors. Baskttbail Baglas The girls and boys basketball team of East Yancey High School are looking forward to opering the coming season at Hot Springs, December 1, 1967. The following have been chos en as members of the teams: Girls Linda Sue Grindstaff, Judy Gr ndstaff, Barbara Jones, Jearline Diane Murphy, Linda Hollis eld, L’nda Bartlett, Patricia Autrey, Hilda Wyatt, Pamela Styles, Donna Parker. Boys Tony Rneer Tipton, Darryl Gibbs, Jerry CHevenger, Danny Laws. Richard Westall. Gerald Wrtoht. Mike Fox. Jerry Kates. Ken Hicks, and Larry Dale. C"ach: Ben Pevton. Managers: Deborah McCurry and Janice Allen. All the students parHdoaHng in football, basketball and base ball have received their school jackets which give ree'venition that toev have participated in East Yancey sports.
