DEC. 28. 1967 McClure Named Heart Fund Chairman, Mrs. Biggerstaff Treasurer Doyce G. McClure of Burns ville has been named 1968 Heart Fund Cnairman and President elect for Yancey County, It was announced today by the Yancey County Heart Association Pre sident Mrs. Betty Bacon. As Heart Fund Charman, Mr. McClure will supervise the local association’s 1968 fund-raising act.vities and will appoint com munity leaders to direct the various activities planned for the campa gn during Heart month. The local campaign will be carried out in conjunction with the drives of the North Carolina and American Heart Association, held each year chiring February. Mr. McClure said that plans for the local drive are be'ng formulated and leaders and ac tivities will be announced shortly. He pointed out that the funds wll go to conduct the Heart Association’s research, public education and community ser vice programs. "Heart Dsease”, Mr. McClure said, “is still the leading causa of death in the Yancey County area, as k *s in the nation and the world. Last year some 22,000 North Carolinians died as a re sult of cardiavascular disease. Our heart association represents an opportunity for every person in the Yancey*, County area to take a hand in stamping out this killer.’’ Mr. aid Mrs. Lee Ray Rob ertson of Johnson C'ty, Tenn., visited his mother, Mrs. W. Harold McDonald a r ni family here during the holidays. Mrs. Jack Biggerstaff of Bur nsville will serve as Treasurer of the Yancey County Heart As soc'ation, Mrs. Betty Bacon. President of the local Heart group has announced. As treas urer, Mrs. Biggerstaff will be responsible for the banking and maintaning accounts of funds raised during the 1968 Heart Fund Campaign. In addition, Mrs. B ggerstaff will handle memorial gifts to the local Heart Association. These are accept able throughout die year, Presi dent Bacon said. Mrs. Biggerstaff called for maximum effort in the 1968 Heart Fund campaign and in dicated she wll launch a local drive to encourage memorial gift giving to the Heart Assoc'a tion as "a thoughtful and prac tical way to honor those who have died- of heart and blood vessel d sease. Dedlcatien Service At Zlan Church The Zion Baptist Church at Green Mountain will have a de dicat on service on Sunday, December 31st. The Zion Chur ch is the oldest Baptist Church in the county.
