Pur pose of the conference will be tt> fam'liarize professional end non-professional groups with the situation, purpose and objectives cf the program. Mrs. Genevieve K. Greenlee. Extenson House Furn'shings Specialist, will conduct die con ference and will set up an ex hibt shew ng supplies and eq uipment needed for the mattress making program. Plans for a two day workshop will be dis cussed follow ng the conference. Mrs. Mary M. Deyton, Extension Heme Economist, will supervise the program at the County level and urges agencies in the Coun ty who are interested in promot ing this program to send repre sentatives to the April 2 confer ence. Program To Train Urban Planners Needed RALEIGH The th'rd pro* grim to train urban planners urgently needed in North Car> lira has been announce! by the Div sion of Co: .mun ty Planning. The six month program, which will extend from July 1 to Dec ember 31, 1968, has been pre pared fer those w'th no. previous traning in urban planning. Pur pose of the program is to train staff personnel for the D vision. The course consists of c’/ass ro m nstructicn, supervised re search and project work, with emphasis throughout on the praet cal aspects of planning. Classes will be conducted by members cf the Train ng and Research Section of the Divis on and by approximately ffty guest instructors obta ned from state agencies, the Institute of Govern, ment, consultants, and from North Carolina cities and coun ties. This c ass was held at Peterson Branch with 17 participants Rut what made THE YANCEY RECORD a more urban way of life in North Carolina. This trend has in turn created a demand for planners which if not be ng met. For this reasffn, tra ning oi planners is a defnite need in North Carolina for bedb the rrie- centers and the smaller cities. Partic pants of the program will be offered a beginn ng sal- of $6,408. Regular six-month increments thereafter w.ll be as follows: After 6 months $6,798 After 12 months $7,044 After 18 months $7,380 As er 24 months $8,520 The program is open to North Card nians who have bachelor's degrees in a wide range of felds which contribute to an under standing of urban problems.
