Pictured abeve are members as the graduating class and mar- Thursday, May 23, 1968 First Youth Jamboree For Yancey Scheduled * For August Sponsored by the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce, the first annual Yancey County Youth Jamboree is scheduled for p'esentation in a local au ditorium on Thursday night, August 8, at 7:30 p. m. The per . formance is planned for Aug ust 8 in order that it may be come a traditional part of the Mount Mitchell Arts and Crafts Festival held in Burnsville each year. Given enthusiastic support by the Chamber of Commerce, and endorsed by the Burnsville Lions Club, the Yancey Youth Jamboree is to be a high qual ity program consisting of folk songs, folk ballads, spiritual or religious songs, instrumen tals, smooth square dancing, western square dancing, buck dancing, folk dancing and clog fin«. A Steering Commitfee has beer formed to help give direc tion in future planning the Jamboree. Mr. Claude Vess, Mrs Z. B. Many plans have been made already, and much interest and excitement has been shown ov er the fact that Yancey Coun ty young people of school age will be given an opportunity to display talents relating to their rich backg'Ound of folk singing, dane ng and music. Only traditional folk, religious songs, and music w U be pre sented in the Jamboree.
