Nel Hadley, Na tional Representative, on be half of services rendered to re sidents of Yancey Coun.y for 26 yea-s. At the meeting called Tuesday evening, October 1, t was voted for the Yancey County Chapter to merge with the counties of Mitchell and Avery, and form ing the Mayland Chapter wkh offices n Spruce Pine. Mrs. Kay Matthiesen will be the Execu tive Secretary. Mr. Bailey began his work with the Red Cross back n 1942 with “Home Service" which has recently been changed to "Ser vices to Miltary Families". He has been handling cases ior servicemen and their famil es in Yancey Coun'y since that time. The current case load for the county is about 200 per year. These nclude: eme’gency leave, health and welfare reports, em ergency loans or grants, com passionate cases, and many .other problems for servicemen and their families. For most of those years, Mr. Bailey has been serving as the Executve Secretary of the chap ter. This has given him the re sponsibility of keeping records for all Red Cross Serv’ces and Programs and sending necess ary reports to the area office in Atlanta. Mr. Bailey plans to retire from the Red Cross work as soot as a replacement can be found to handle Service to M li tary Families inquiries for the county. ■ Mr. Bailey wll continue with the Veterans Service Program as Service Officer.
