in Yancey record Blue Grass Group To Perform In ETSU Festival The Toe River Valley Boy«, noted locally-bated Bluegrass group, wll perform in the Thi'd Annual East Tennessee State University Folk Festival in Johnson City, Tennessee, scheduled for Fr'day and Sat urday, October 4-5. The band returns to the event for the third year, having been featur ed in the festival since its in cep'ion in 1966. The festival, which will be held in Memorial Gymnasium at ETSU, is sponsored by the, Tennessee Folklo“e Society and East Tennessee State Univer sity, with funds from the Ten nessee Arts Commission and the ETSU Performing Arts Cou ncil, and is di-ected a?a n this year by Thomas G. Burton and Ambrose N. Manning, both of the ETSU faculty. Master of ceremonies will be Rusty Cury. Fr day’s program gets under way at noon when the free crafts exhibit will open. The afternoon portion, from 3:00 to 5:00 p. m., is also without charge. The ev en ng program on Friday will begin at 8:00 p. m. Saturdav af ternoon at 5:00 a rifle match is scheduled, and the evening program Sa'urday will also be gin at 8:00 p. m. Children under 12 years of age will be cents and those under 6 will be admitted free of charge. Also featured n th : s year’s fes ival will be Lester Flatt and Ear! Scruggs, with The Fog gy Mountain Boys, who are con sidered top Bluegrass perform ers, as well as televison, radio and recording artists. They will appear on the Fr day evening program. Doc Watson, the fam ous blind folk-singer-guitar vir tuoso from Deep Gap, returns to ETSU for the second time, having performed at last year’s fest val. P.’s sis’er-in-law, Maybelle, the orig nal Carter Family, who re co~ded about 250 songs dj-ing the period 1927-1941. Janette will be joined this year by her imfher, Sarah herself, and her bro'her, Joe Carte-. Jean Bit ch e. famed folk singer from Kentucky, will also retu-n to the festival this year. Doc Wat son and the Carier Family will appear on the Saturday evening* show. Jean Ritche will perform on the Friday afternoon por tion and also on the Sa’ur. 'v night event. Gambreli, P-esident of the Daniel Boone Council, an nounced last night at the regu lar meeting (23 Sep 1 .) that Clay ton Doty, Scout Executive of the Council, has been promoted to the Region Six Staff of the Boy Scours of America. “Doty is to as a Deputy Regional Scout Executive serving the four Southeastern s’ates. North Car olina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He will make his heme in Alianta, Georgia. Doty has served as Scout Exe cutive of the Daniel Boone Council since June, 1966. Dur ing this time the council has grown over two thousand mem bership and one hundred units.
