She savs "at first it was hard
because I was the only Negro
member of the NYC class, I
hated, to go to school. As time
went by she made friends
and “I learned that you some
times have to take the first
s ep toward friendship"
Margie has always been inter

training, and for manv months
the NVC s‘aff encouraged her
to enroll in the Job OriM. iShe
is now ooroD’e'ing her high
school education and will then
be eMgib’e for Nurse's Aide
training if she is still inte'-es'ed.
If not, there are numerous other
fields of s'udv available at the
Job Co~ps Center.
When she arrived in Marion,
Va on January 8, she received
a le'-te* from Jean Louise Kemp
t-on. North Carolina coordinator
for Women in Community Ser

Last week Ma-gie wrote Jane
Powel, her NYC counselor in
Mitchell County: "I am trying
very hard to make all of you
proud of me after all you have

"Margie is determined to take
advantage of her opportunity,"
Mrs. Powell says, “because she
knows that we are interested In
her and are behind her one hun

what these boys and girls need
