as one observes the fathers eyes
beam as h f s son’s car reaches
the finish line one could; specu
late and say that the father just
might have taken over the mak

are sure both enjoyed this two

Mrs. John Ollls, won the award
for the fastest car, while Greg
ory Westall, son of Mr. and Mrs.

LOCAL TAXPAYERS TO
FORK UP $2,813,000
(Special to The Yancey Record)
NEW YORK, Mar. 17 - How
big a contribution to the Fedand
coffers will residents of Yanesy
County be making, on or beftore
April 15th, via their incoms
taxes?
The government expects it to
be well above what it was in
1968, when collections of income
and withholding taxes in the
local area came to approximat
ely $2,291,000.
That is the estimate of what
was turned in last April 15th,
as de'ermined by a breakdown
of the overall returns from the
State of North Carolina.
According to Treasury Depart
ment figures, the statewide total
was $1,273,000,000. Local taxpay
ers provided some 0.18 percent
of this amount
group as the only Ctogger dance
team to represent Burnsville in
the Jamboree. Burnsville should
be proud of this team and be
sure to go see them perform.

Just how much more the gov
ernment counts on receiving thin
year is indica ed in the budget
that was presented to Congress
in January by the outgoing ad
ministration.
It anticipates that the high
level of employment in the past
year, together with bigger earn
ings and the 10 percent surtax
that went Into effect in July will
produce personal income tax re
venues of no less than SB4 4
billion, as compared wito the
$68.7 billion collected ki 1968.
Because of the improved in
come picture locally and the ad
ded taxes that were imposed, re
sidents of Yancey County will
fe bearing a full share of this
$15.7 billion increase, it to ex
pected.
Their contribution this year
will be in the neighborhood of
Children in the dance team
will be selling ticke’s for the
Jamboree. The school that sells
the most ticke’s will be present
ed with a Folk Music Album.
Number Twenty-Eight
$2 813,008, or 8522,000 more than
before, on the basis of prelimi
nary estimates for the local
area.
The new budget presen'ed to
Congress also projects income
and expense figures tor ths
coming fiscal year, which be
gins on July 1, 1969.
It calls for personal income
taxes of S9O 4 billion, or $8 bill
ion more than is being collect
ed now. Thao assumes that the
surtax will be extended for ano
ther year. All indications, at the
present time, are that it will be.
If Yancey Court y residents are
to increase their tax payments
next year to a correepooding
degree and maintain their pre
sent Mandard of living, their
earnings will have to go up by
more than 7 percent during 1888,
a calculation shows.
We urge all Yancey County citi
zens to buy a ticket for the
Jamboree so that Burnsville
Elementary schol can receive
the nice album.
