Sample Copy ,/a mmmm Volume 33 Victim Os Auto Accident Involved In Second Crash En Route To The Hospital By Rebecca Boone Mrs. Ruth Arrowood Towewas the victim of a dual accident on Friday 23rd acco rding to the highway patrol offi ce in Burnsville. The report was that Mrs. Towe was driving east approximately 8 miles North of Burnsville when a car driven by Danny Hudgins of Rt. 3, Burnsv ille struck the side“of Mrs. Towei car in a sharp curve. Mrs. Towe sustained injuries and was being carried to Spruce Pine Hospital in a car driven by her brother, Bill Anowood, Rt. 3, Burnsville when an accident involving thee cars occuned. SIOO Checks Given Yancey Mental Health Association By Local Clubs On Tuesday night the Yancey County Mental Health Aasocia - tion held Its Annual Meeting at the First Presbyterian Chinch The invocation was given by the Rev. Bert Styles and the president, Ms. Louella Honeycutt presided over the meeting which followed a fine dinner. This meeting was an important stepping stone in the growth of the Mental Heath Association and in building up public participation and support for its programs. The act ions taken insure the continued gro wth of its service s within the community. Car no. 2, driven by Wil liard Charles Jobe of Rt. 1, Bur nsville was passing car no. 3,dr iven by Robert Farrell Boyd of Arrowood, Tennessee, when he struck Arrowood head on. The car then spun around and struck vehicle no. 3 inside and came to rest in the middle of the road. Mrs. Towe received further injuries in this collision and was rushed on to the hospital ior trea tment. No other injuries were sustained. tions were taken. Though the Center is serving only six children now, there has been remarkable pro gress on the part of the children Mrs. Deyton gave special note of appreciation to the Board for the center and to the childr e n's teachers. The Day Care Center looks forward to continued gro - wth and service. Thursday, May 29, 1969 MEMORIAL DAY Silently we pause with sorrow and pride, to salute the brave heroes who fought to protect our precious freedome. Secondly the Association re ceived reports on the developm ent of the Mental Health Satel ite Clinic. The first clinic was held in May at the Public Heal th Center and the next clinic will be held in Bakersville in June. the development of a Drug program was discussed in which patients who are recently released from Broughton or nee ding drugs would be able to ob tain them at some savings while undergoing treatment. This pro gram is still being outlined in cooperation with the pharmacist! in the community. The Association then held a brief business meeting at which time the By-laws were approved and a Board of Directors were nominated and elected. The fo llowing persons were elected to serve on the Board of Directors: Mrs. Charles Gillespie, Mm Lo uella Honeycutt (who has served faithfully for the past years as the president), Rev. Don Elly, Rev. Harold McDonald, DtPaul Fall, Mrs. Gladys Colletta, Mrs. Lucius Smith, Rev. Bert Styles, Mr. Bob Harris, Mis. Garland Wampler, Mrs. Norris Deyton, Mr. Os Deyton, Mrs. Alma She pard, Mrs. Betty Bacon (who has served in the capacity of vice president), Miss /oc Young (who has served as treasurer), Miss Be lt Motsinger, Mr, Larry I limit* Mr. John Maddox, Mrs. Elizabe th Silvers and Miss Wanda Ed wards (who has served as the se cretary). The evening was highlighted by the gift of One Hundred Doll ars from the Yancey County Jay ce.es. The gift was given to the President by Mr. Jerry Holcombe, the president of the Yancey Cou nty Jaycees. Mr. Ralph Tombe rlin of the Mount Mitchell Bridle and Saddle Club also presented a check for One Hundred Dollars to the Day Care Center for Special Children. The final event of the even - ing was a speech given by Dr. Ro bert Byron stressing the possibili ties for care and service for the Mentally ill offered by the Clin ic which has recently opened. Dt Byron is serving the Clinic as the psychiatrist. The Association re ceived commendations for its de velopment up to this point. . Mr. Victor Syndor, Executive Director of the North Carolina Mental Health Association was present and gave some splend id advice and suggestions for fur ther growth,
