"The hardship im posed upon these wives by a separation such as this re - ceives very little attention," she says. In the interest of making this separation a little easier the Mayland Chapter of the Red Cross is sponsoring the formation of a Service Wives Club for women who are un able to accompany their hus - bands on their tours of mili - tary duty. The purpose of the proposed club is to provide the service wives an opportunity to meet one another and dis cuss mutual problems and ideas. The Mayland Chapter is conducting a survey to deter mine the number of service wives in Mitchell, Avery and Yancey Counties intere st e d in joining the club. Codette Girl Scouts Host Women’s Club And Give Christmas Party For Children The Cadette Girl Scout Troop #65 visited the West ern North Carolina Child Care Center at Morganton, North Carolina on Saturday, Decem ber 13. The young scouts gave a Christmas party for child ren at the Center and presen ted them with more than 40 gifts. They played games and sang Christmas Carols with the children and Connie Hensley recited a humorous Poem. This worthwhile project, which brought a touch of Christmas joy to the young sters at the Child Care Cen ter,was planned and caxri e d out by the twenty-nine girls in the Cadette Girl. A, booth Churches To Hold Special Services And Carol Sing The churches in and around Burnsville have planned spe cial Christmas music and Christmas get-togethers along with or instead of their regu lar worship service. Following are some of the special Christmas ser vices to be held: At the First Presbyterian Church in Burnsville, the choir will present special mu sic for Christmas at this Sun day's Morning Worship Ser vice. At the Estatoa Presbyter - ian Church the Christmas Pro gram "What Christmas Mean4' Will be held on December 21 at 7:00 p. m. There will be a Candle Light Service to be led by the Pastor, Rever end Bert Styles. The Sacred Heart Catho lic Church here in Burnsville will hold a Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve . Father Ke lapher will be in charge of the service. Christmas program to mem bers of the Senior Women?s Club, their acting sponsor. The program consisted of traditional carols, modem popular Christmas songs, ap propriate Biblical scripture, and a humorous reading. The scripture was read by Chris - tine Miller, and the reading was given by Connie Ffensley The girls in Troop 65 are gladdening many hearts in this Christmas season and may they continue to do so in the coming year. and the school's kitchen staff served refreshments. The Celo Friends Meeting con tributed $25. The total amount of sales came to $141.40 of which $102.60 was contributed to die P.T.A. for improve marts to be made on the school to make it eligible for accredi tation. Number Sixty -Six The Higgins Memorial Uni ted Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church met in a joint worship service last Sunday night at which a pro gram'vpf Christmas Music was presented by the East Yancey High School Chorus. This coming Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.\m. the choir of Hig - gins Memorial will present a special Christmas Cantata. The Sunday School children are going to have a Christ mas program at 7:00 p. m. Sunday evening in the Fel lowship Hall of the church. Last Sunday the First Bap tist Church in Burnsville had a Cantata entitled'TheChrist Child" presented bythe adult choir. This Sunday the Ju - nior and Youth Choirs will present a Christmas Cantata at 7:30 p. m, taking tie place of the regular worship ser - vice. Rev. McDonald also announced that a congrega - tional Carol Sing was held in place of the regular pray er meeting last night, led by the choir. The church deacons and their wives were invited to the pastorium for an informal "coffee hour"and fellowship following the Wed nesday evening service. On Friday, there will be a Christ mas party for the children, pa rents and workes in the Pri - mary Department at 7:30p.m. Finally, there will be an Associational Carol Sing at the First Baptist Chinch for membes of all congregations of all denominations. It will be held on Christmas Eve and everyone is urged to attend this special service of this joyous Christmas season. Yancey Man Arrested One Yancey County re si - dent was arrested on Decem ber 11th following a raid by Federal ATU officers and Yancey County Sheriff De - partment. Tilden Zack Fender of the Bald Mountain Communi ty was arrested by Chief In vestigator Phillip C. McGuire and Sheriff Kermit BanksJHe was charged in a Federal war rant for possession of non-tax paid whiskey. The case is now pending U.S. Federal District Court in May.
