Wives Club
Sponsored
By Ashton Chapman
One of the hardest aspects
of military service is the se -
paration of the military men
from their families, accord -
ing to Miss Jo Woody, Execu
tive Secretary of theMiyland
Chapter, American National
Red Cross. "The hardship im
posed upon these wives by a
separation such as this re -
ceives very little attention,"
she says.
In the interest of making
this separation a little easier
the Mayland Chapter of the
Red Cross is sponsoring the
formation of a Service Wives
Club for women who are un
able to accompany their hus -
bands on their tours of mili -
tary duty. The purpose of the
proposed club is to provide the
service wives an opportunity
to meet one another and dis
cuss mutual problems and
ideas.
The Mayland Chapter is
conducting a survey to deter
mine the number of service
wives in Mitchell, Avery and
Yancey Counties intere st e d
in joining the club. Anyone
interested is invited to phone
Miss Jo Woody (765-2422) or
Mrs. Betty Lantz, Service tc
Military Families (765 -4052
or 765-2206).
