Fire Hits Local Home By Carolyn Yuziuk A fire destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jones last Friday in the Double Is - land Section of Yancey Coun ty. The frame home was a total loss, according to Fire Chief, Bob Hilliard. The blaze occurred at 10:30 a. m* when both Mr. and Mrs. Jones happened to be away, Mr Jones at his place of business in Burnsville, City Motor Co. and Mrs. Jones having gone shopping. According to Chief the fire probably started from a defective floor furnace. It was estimated that the fire may have been smouldering and burning inside the closed house for 3 or 4 hoius before the son, who happened to be pass ing the house, saw the smoke and called Burnsville Fire De partment. By the time the Fire Depart ment arrived, the inside of the house was already gutted and they were unable to s q,l va ge anything. Mr. Jones had recently pur chased a new piano which was destroyed in the fire, and re portedly had a valuable gun collection in addition to his household furnishings lost in the blaze. ©m J| ©£M©[!
