Awards Presented At Banquet j The annual Blue and Gold Cyb Scout Banquet was held on S aturday night, Match 28, at the Community Building, with Scout Master John Oil is presid ing. Following the Achievements and Awards were presented for outstanding work and projects to 20 boys by the Scoutmaster. Then the annual Pinewood Derby Race created its usual excitement for the participants and their support - ers. 29 Cub Scouts entered their cars, made by the scouts and their dads. First Place went to Bobby Holcombe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Holcombe of Burnsville; Second Place winner was Eric Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Johnson of Burnsville. Greg Bryant's car was a fast 3rd and was running well until the front axel broke. Close to 2DO District School Board Met The annual District 16 School Board meeting was held at Harris High School March 26, 1970. Yancey County was well represented by the following persons: I.E. Cle - venger, Ralph Silver, A. F. Blankenship, Herbert Allen, Landrum Wilson, Dover Garrett Bailey, Charlie Hens ley, Wade Holloway, Jack Mclntosh, Ethel Boone, Gar rett Anglin, Boyd Deyton,Ray mond Fox, Phillip Styles, Ron nie Kates, Woodrow Anglin and Larry Howell. Group sessions were held in the following areas: Occupational Educ a tion- Leaders, Mr. Fred Bishop, Mr. Culver R Dale; Finan ci n g Public Schools, Local Level- Leaders, Dr. N.H.Shope and Landrum Wilson; Involvement in Education, Human Relatiors- Leaders, Robert Strother, W. P. Griffith. Flowing the evening din ner Dr. Robert Strother, Spe - cial Assistant to the Superin - tendent of Instruction, brought to the group many interesting facts about the duties and re sponsibilities of a school board member. During the business meet ing Mr. I.E. Clevenger of Yan - cey County was elected to serve as Representative of the Legislative Committee to the N.C. School Board Associatin Officers were elected for District 16 for the following year: District 16 President, Mrs. Ben Davis of Buncombe County. District 16 LE.Clevenger of Yancey Co.
