29th ANNUAL MEETING '■■" P ! H^EHBiliS&>,*- James Allen Grakam The HONORABLE JAMES ALLEN GRAHAM, North Caro lina Commissioner of Agriculture, will make the principal address. Born in the Town of Cleveland in Rowan County, he attended Cleveland High School and graduated from N.C. State with a degree in Agriculture Education in 1942. He was permanent president of the Class of 1942 at N.C. State. Mem ber of Tau Kappa Epsilon and Phi Kappa Phi. Taught vocational agriculture in Iredell County, 1942- 1946. Was organizer and superintendent of Upper Mountain Research Farm at Laurel Springs, in Ashe and Alleghany Counties, 1946-1952. Manager of Winston-Salem Fair and Dixie Classic Livestock Show, 1952-1954. Secretary North Carolina Hereford Cattle Breeders Association 1948-1956, serving stall—time during the year 1954-1955. Member of first board of directors of North Carolina Cattlemen's Association. Elected to 4—year term as Commissioner of Agriculture November 3, 1964. Re-elected to second term November 5, 1968. He is a cattleman, farmer, and businessman. By legislation the Commissioner of Agriculture is Chair man of the State Board of Agriculture, the State Board of Gasoline and Oil Inspection and the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Hall of,Fame; member of the North Carolina Milk Commission, the Crop Seed Improvement Board and the Atomic Energy Advisory Committee. Member of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Foun dation of North Carolina State University, member of the Cotton Promotion Committee, member of the N.C. Board of Farm Organizations and Agencies, member of the North Caro lina Committee on Migrant Labor, member of the Governor’s Council on Occupational Health, member of the N.C. Council on Foods and Nutrition, and member of numerous other com mittees and boards. He is a Mason, a Kiwanian and member of Scotch Ireland Lodge 154, a recipient of the State 4-H Alumni Award, 1965, and was named Man-of—the—Year in North Carolina Agriculture for 1969 by The Progressive Farm er Magazine. He is a Deacon at First Baptist Church,Raleigh. Nash, known as PANHANDLE PETE, will give a special performance at the Annual Meeting of the Members of French Broad Electric Membership Corporation on April 25. PANHANDLE PETE is very widely known and has built him self quite a reputation in playing 13 instruments at one time. The weight of his instruments is 104 pounds. The SKYLANDERS QUARTET will open the program at 1:00 p.m. This Quartet has made several recordings and al bums and has appeared on radio and TV.
