Comity line is due to be ap
proved by the State H ighway
Commission at its meeting in
Raleigh this Thursday.
Highway Commissioner No

ty, who has Yancey County in
his territory, announced this
week that the Commission's fti
mary Road Committee had ap
proved the project and that the
full Commission's approval is
assured.
Hawkins said that some sec -
tions of 19E will be relocated

named Miss Mayland 1970,
Friday night at the Harris High
School Auditorium in Spruce
Pine. Linda is the daughter
of Mr. and Mis. O. W. Deyton
of Burnsville. The Miss May
land Pageant is sponsored by
the Jaycees in Mitchell, Avery

Burnsville will be transformed
from the quiet, serene park
type island into a gala display
of craftsmen exhibiting their
creations, covered with exci
ted children and curious adults.
Shrieks of delight will echo as
the youngsters try their talents
at egg throwing, pie eating,
and sack racing. Adults will
marvel at the handicrafts on
exhibit and everyone will be
thrilled to the dancing,picking
and singing to be done by some
of Yancey County's finest ar
tists—participants from the
Youth Jamboree, which is held
in conjunction with the Fair
on August 6 and 7 at 7x30 each

. In what promises to be the
biggest ever, youngsters from
all over the county will take
the stage in the Third Annual
Yancey Youth Jamboree Thurs
day and Friday evenings at East
Yancey High School at 7:30 p.
m. With forty-three different
participants, including dance
teams, the Jamboree will pro -
vide Yancey County with two
nights of fine entertainment.
Both nights will feature sing
ing, dancing, picking, etc. in
both classes of compet it ion:
Class I - grades 1-6, Class ll
grades 7-12. Awards will be
given on Friday evening. Mr.
