Tri-County Baptists Plan To Build Wha£ seemed to be a dream for Tri-County Baptists several years ago, is rapidly becoming a reality. It all started like this: In 1960 several pastors and layment from the Tri - County area met to discuss the possibility of organizing a Bap tist Camp Meeting. The re - sponse to this meeting was so great that plans were immedi ately made to follow up with a monthly fellowship meeting. After being organized as 'The Tri-County Baptist Camp Mee ting" plans were made to pur - chase land for the construction of a Tabernacle. By-Laws and a Constitution was written vhicfa stated that any land purchased was to be used for the construc tion of a tabernacle which in turn was to be used to promote old fashioned preaching, pray ing and singing and in the event that, it should not be used as such all property would be sold and the money used to preach the Gospel on foreign soil. How ever at this point it was all a vision. Little did these Ehptists know that the coming dayswwe to drag into months and the coming months drag into years, and that problems and disap - pointments would confront them As time began to roll by, se veral people offered their assis tance and sympathy. hi the beginning enthusiasm was very prevalent, but as the disappoxt ments came the enthusiasm be- Tegal notice north CAROLINA YANCEY COUNTY IN THE GENERAL COURT OF JUSTICE-SUPERIOR COURT DIVISION SPECIAL PROCEEDING BEFORE THE CLERK BILL ATKINS, ADMINISTRA TOR OF THE ESTATE OF BAR NETT ROLAND, DECEASED, Petitioner vs JCHN L. There seemed to be no land available for such a worthwhile came, and by 1967 it seemed as if all interest had been lost, but through thealert ness and dedication of several of the pastors in the area, camp meeting fires were re-kindled and 1967 went down on record as the best year for the advance ment of the Camp Meeting. In the late summer of 1967a Canp Meeting was held in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church with ap proximately 25 churches parti cipating. To help insure the success of this meeting, people gave of their time, talent and money. Many who had no - thing to give, in good faith, made pledges of money to be paid at a later date. After tin meeting trustees were appoin - ted to purchase any land in the area that would be suitabfe for the cause. Swiftly another year had passed, no land had been purchased, many pledges had been forgotten, but the camp meeting of the year be - fore had been remembered by those who participated and ho nored their pledges and plans were made immediately for the 1968 Camp Meeting, tis meeting was held in a tent on a vacant lot outside the city limits of Spruce Pine. Mr. Ra mie Beam was in sympathy with this work and donated the land for two weeks.
