Department of In surance ordered immediate evacuation of the entire second floor of the old building, and including visits to Twee ts i e Railroad and The Land of Oz. The Yancey County Child Development Center extends a thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Billy Shockett of Miami, Florida for their generous donation of a kiddie pool. The pool has been invaluable to the Center's summer program. Gerald Pate added the two - conversion rub to give the Rebels an 8-0 first quarter lead. Each team scored once in the second period. Bakersville tallied on a 15-yard run by Johnny Duncan and the first Maney to Parker pass for 50 yards scored for Cane River. In the fourth period John Craig's one-yard blast scored for Bakersville but the second Maney to Parker pass for 40 yards clinched the victory. Bakersville added anoth e r TD on a Craig one-yard plow but couldn't bridge the gap as the run failed for the two point conversion. C. as soon as possible. First, Second, and Third Place Awards will be given for the best floats. A prize of SIOO for First, SSO for Second, and $25 for Third. An outsider who came here to write about the "hippies " in Yancey County, he was doing his thing and most like - ly harmless, especially since the natives knew that we have no real problem with hippies here. But the attitwfe now has changed to concern and outrage; the outrage of ordinary citizens who find that their community has been falsely represented to countless readers who have no way of knowing the truth, People in Charlotte and Detroit who have lived in Yuar cey County, who spend their summers here, or who have relatives here, have written to The Yancey Record and sent clippings of articles, expressing their ebneem over the image of Yancey County as a "hippie haven". Mr. Friedman, a writer for Knight Newspapers - which con- in parj of the Miami Herald, The Detroit Free Press, and The Charlotte Observer, has magnified his findings to suit his need for sensationalism and presents a picture of our area that the local folks cannot even recognize. An explicit de tailed directive is expected to follow the orders he has alrea dy given.
