Last week the time was giv en over to learning to use clay. Kore McWhirter of Celo was the guest teacher for this les- • son. Besides being a full time potter, she is one of the leaders of Girl Scout Troop 19 of South Toe School and has been a Scout since she was 10 old Kore explained the various processes as she modeled a rab bit and a mouse and showed Ms Bill the work of some of her girls. Angie Robinson and Juanita and Marquita Harrison's wind chimes, pinch pots and coil pots were proudly shown off on the show. Mrs. McWhirter reports that the experience, her first on TV, was a pleasant one and Mr. Bill a gracious and relaxing host. Next Friday's lesson is .in yam crafts. NC Student Statistics Are North Carolina High Schools graduating more stu dents than in years before ? This and other pertinent questions are answered in a recent publi cation released by the State Department of Public Instruc - tion and entitled "Follow - up Survey of North Carolina High School Graduates, 1969. " Os the 67,287 students gra - duating from North C aroli n a High Schools in 1969 (an in crease of 3.9 percent over 19- 68), the percentage of those entering college increased to 40.98 percent. Only 38.47 percent entered college in 19- 68. In comparison to the State average, 9.0 percent of the 1969 graduates in Yancey coun ity entered college. | Graduates who don't enter j college proceed down a num ber of paths. Some 28 per ! cent of the graduates enter the I job market, a percentage se cond only to the number who attend college. 68.0 percent of Yancey County's graduates took a job after graduation. A high percentage of 1969 graduates (16. 68 percent en tered a trade school. Many female graduates entered busi ness schools, nursing schools, stewardess schools, program - ing schools, and such. Male graduates entered trade courses such as those offered in the Community College System* welding, brick laying, tele - phony, etc. Some 13.0 per , cent of the 1969 graduates of !
