Department will now be offer
ing free mumps vaccine at the
regular Monday immunization
clinic for a limited time only.
Although mumps is usually
a mild disease, it may occas -
sionally have serious complica
tions. Meningoencephalitis has
been estimated to occur in 10
percent of all patients, and in
fection of the reproductive or
gans in 20-30 percent of adult
males. Other complications
can be muscular weakness, fa
cial paralysis, arthritis,hepati -
tis and deafness.
Children have a natural
immunity up to the age of 1
year. This vaccine will be

Mrs. Henry Honeycutt made
a trip to Mars Hill recently for
a medical check up.
Mr. Jerry Robinson, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Worley Robinson,
is home on leave. He has been
stationed at Ft. Ord, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. BillCullumof
Montreal, Canada, visited her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carter
Thomas on Sunday, Sept. 27.

lustrated by Gustaf Tenggren.
Following these stories, the
children enjoyed dancing with
Miss Theresa Coletta to the
tune of "Sing A Song of Six -
pence."

\graduated from Burnsville High School and is married to Mr,
Elmo M. Edwards. Their home is located on the old Green
mmmr Mountain Road at the edge of Burnsville. Mrs. Edwards has
made a great contribution to the telephone industry and to
the people of Yancey County. Lou was first introduced to the
fe Wkmm telephone business by becoming employed by The Pac i sic
E Telephone G Telegraph Company of Portland, Oregon, and
yt MM worked in the accounting department. Due to her love for
Yancey County and the people in it, Mrs. Edwards returned
to Burnsville and was employed by the local telephone com-
ImHBS pany as chief operator, supervising six L. D. operators. At
that time there were less than 200 telephones in Burnsville
B and Micaville combined. Lou has worked for the local tele-
HPUJAH phone company for 23 years and is presently your cashier clerk.
