Morning Star Youth Band To Be In Gospel Sing For UF
One-Car Accident Fatal
A tragic one-car accident
took the life of one Yancey
man and seriously injured ano
ther on Tuesday night at appro
ximately 7:30 p. m.
Craig Jenkins of Ce lo was
killed when the car hev/as driv
ing apparently skidded off of
Highway 80 and hit a tree. The
road was wet at the time due
to a light rain.
In the car with him was Dee
Harrison, also of Yancey Coun
ty, who was taken to an Ashe -
vise Hospital.
The wreck occurred just
South of the South Toe River
School.

results were tabulated early
Wednesday morning, ending a
hard-fought battle between the
Yancey County Republican and
Democratic Parties.
Incumbent Sheriff, Kermit
Banks (R) retained his position
and Arnold Higgins (R) was

Baßding Burns
A storage building belong -
ing to Mr. Dewey Robinson of
Micaville was completely de
stroyed by fire on Tuesday at
approximately 7:30 p. m.
The fire was reportedlystar
ted by small boys who attemp
ted to light a fire in a small
stove in the building with kero
sene, and it got out of control.
The building was used as
an evergreen storage house
Most of the Galax leaves were
removed to safety in time, as
were the few tools kept in the
building.
When the Newdale Fire De
partment arrived, the building
was already completely en -
gulfed by flames and efforts to
save the building were useless.

He has arranged for eight of

East Tennessee to participate.
These groups are donating their
time and talent, thus making
it possible for all the gate re-

School Saturday, November 7
at 6:00 p. m. Winners in the
Awards Program will be an

The singing event is being
widely publicized, and a very
large turnout is expected. Will
Bennett has mailed out over
8,000 circulars advertising the
event to box holders in Yancey,
Mitchell and Madison Counties.
The United Fund Honor 801 l

has now expanded to include
thirteen businesses, offices and
schools. The UF committee
recognizes that there may be
some omissions from the list,
due to failure of reports to come
in.
Man Killed la
Trailer Blaze
A Micaville man was burned
to death around 11:00 p. m. Tues
day night when a fire destroyed
his mobile home.
Lee Boone was apparently
alone in his home on Plum
Branch Road when it caught on
fire. Origin of the blaze is un
known at this time.
According to Newdale Fire
Chief, Charles Crowder, the
Fire Department was summoned
by a neighbor. The trailer
was already consumed by the
flames when they reached it.
The Burnsville Fire Department
arrived shortly afterwards and
stood by to help if needed.
