The Art Contest was sponsored by the Burnsville Women's Club and judges selected by them for this event included Miss Annie Hassel, Mrs. William Hess and Mrs. T. M. Tyner. In the clothing division of the Contest, judges were Mrs. Ca rlyle Bledsoe, Mrs. Clare n ce Burton of Burnsville and Mis. Inez Mcßae of Bakersville. Winners of the local con test were then sponsored by the Burnsville Woman's Club in the various contests in the Fine Arts Festival of District II of the North Carolina Federa - tion of Women's Clubs, held at Brevaid Co liege, Brevaid,N. C. on Saturday, March 13. In the local student art con test grades 7, 8 and 9, Ameri ca Boggs, Randy Briggs,Karen Riddle, Mary Aim Tipton,Nicl Whitson, Mike Woody,Tommy Woody and Rosetta Woody en tered from Mrs. Garrett Ang lin's class at Clearmont Schoo. From Mrs. Frank Lewis' class at Micaville Keith Boone, Dan nis Dale, Curtis Gurley, Ricky Harris, Danny Honeycutt and Gregory McMahan entered. Keith Boone's pencil draw ing was judged best and sent to the district contest in Brevard; Curtis Gurley and Gregory Mc- Mahan won second and third placq respectively, for their pencil drawings. From South Toe School,Mr. James Byrd's class, Pete Mc- Whirter entered a watercolor. From East Yancey, Paula Mc- Whirter entered a charcoal drawing and an acrylic pain ting. In the clothing contest from East Yancey in Mrs .Max Hughes classes Cathy Deyton, Janice Hunter, Loretta Kampf, Diame Styles and Alice Wilson en tered. Sandra Ray entered from Mrs. Mack B» Ray's clas ses. Cathy Deyton won first place and was chosen to repre sent the club in the district con test and Loretta Kar’pf won 2nd place. At the Fine Arts Festival in Brevard, winners from Yancey County were Miss Cathy Dey ton, first place in the high school sewing division and Miss Paula McWhirter, first plaoe in the high school ait division. Paula's acrylic painting will now go to the state contest in Greensboro, March 27. Cathy Deyton will represent the club in the state contest in Greena boro with her sewing. Attending the Fine Arts Fes tival at Brevard College last Saturday were Mrs. Mack B. Ray, Mrs. John Martin, Mrs. Kore McWhirter, Mrs. Tessa Swink, Mrs. Ernest Briggs,Mrs. Harlon Holcombe, Mb, P. C. Coletta, Miss Cathy Deyton and Miss Paula McWhirter from Yancey County.
