United In Marriage
Miss Deborah Ann McCurry,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loy
McCurry, and George Douglas
Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs .
Ralph Parker, were married
at 2 p. m. Saturday 1 , March 6,
in the First Baptist Church in
Burnsville. The Rev. Harold
McDonald conducted the cere
mony.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride were an Em
pire gown of white satin, with
a detachable train, appliqued
with lace and seed pearls. Her
full-length veil of bridal illu
sion, appliqued with lace and
seed pearls was attached to a
cluster of organza petals trim
med with pearls and crystals.
Club News
Hostesses for the March
meeting of the Women's Club
were Mis. T.M. Tyner, Mis.
Tessa Swink, and Miss Annie
Hassell, at the home of Mrs.
Tyner. In the absence of the
president, Mis. P. C. Coletta,
vice president, presided over
the meeting.
Mis. Tyner read a report
from the building commit tee,
which gave specifications for
remodeling the Burnsville
Community Center. Other
.committees made reports,with
plans being tentatively made
for an Art S cholarship fund .The
Fine Arts Festival, to be held
on March 13 at Brevard, was
highlighted, with many of
the club members planning to
attend.
Mr. John Martin, retired
lawyer, was introduced as the
speaker for the evening. His
overall subject was Internation
al Affairs, with especial em
phasis on Aerial Piracy, and
Narcotics and Drugs.
A social hour followed his
presentation.
Mis. Carlyle Bledsoe was
voted into the club as a new
member. Nineteen members
and two guests attended the
meeting.
Her bouquet, a cascade rfvhite
roses.
Miss Margaret Riddle, maid
of honor, ware an Empire gown
of blue satin brocade and car
ried a bouquet of blue and vhite
shasta daisies. Miss Sandra
Fox, bridesmaid, wore an Em
pire gown of yellow satin bro -
cade and carried a bouquet of
yellow and white shasta daisies
Junior attendants were Miss
Angela Penland and Dean Mc-
Cuiry.
Mrs. Bill Penland,of Pensa
cola, aunt of the bride, made
the bridal gown, veil,and at
tendants' attire.
Morris Byrd of Asheville was
best man and ushers were Ro
ger Miller and Bobby Young of
Burnsville.
A reception followed in the
fellowship hall of the church.
The bride is a graduate of
Asheville-Buncombe Techni -
cal Institute, where she is
now secretary to the busine s s
manager.
The groom attended Ashe
ville Buncombe Technical In
stitute and is now employed by
Keck Mobile Homes Supply.
The couple will live in
Asheville, NC.
Engaged
Mr. and Mrs. William L.
Foxx of Route 3, Burnsville,
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Rita Lynn, to
Mr. Paul Pritchard Briggs, Jr,
son of Mr. and Mrs.Riulßriggs
of Mars Hill.
Miss Foxx is a graduate of
Cane River High School and
of East Tennessee State Uni -
versity. She is employed in
the Buncombe County School
System. Mr. Briggs is a gra -
duate of Wilson County T ech
nical Institute and attended
Mars Hill College. He is em
ployed by Eller Oil Company
in Mars Hill.
A June wedding is planned.
